Grant Funding
Two groups, domestic and international, both focused on the proposal itself; what to do after the PhD is covered by the postdoc group under Everyday Services. Domestically the National Natural Science Foundation dominates the workflow — proposals, progress and closeout all run through its online management system, while policies, annual guidelines and award lists sit on the Commission site; social-science applicants go to the national office for philosophy and social science, and national key R&D programmes through the science and technology management system. Internationally: NIH and NSF in the United States plus Horizon Europe in the EU, with RePORTER to reverse-check what has already been funded and at what level, Grantome to aggregate live calls by keyword, Grants.gov for US federal tenders, and CORDIS and Wellcome Trust as the main portals for the EU framework and the UK medical research council. Read the current guideline document before drafting — formats and budget templates change year to year — and mine the funding databases to see what reviewers actually reward. First-time account registration and institutional affiliation reviews take weeks, so start well before the deadline.
