SpeechToText Dictation

Browser speech recognition · continuous dictation · voice punctuation

English 简体 繁體

Dictation

准备就绪:点「开始听写」,对着麦克风说话即可。

Match the language you actually speak: choose English (United States) for English, Chinese (Simplified) for Mandarin. The list depends on the recognition languages your browser supports; Chrome and Edge support the most.

Press Start and allow microphone access. Your words appear below in real time; after a pause or a long silence the browser reopens the session automatically, so you do not have to click again.

Dictation options

Text, language and switches are saved automatically in this browser (localStorage), so they survive a refresh or restart, and you can clear them at any time.

Text

Available voice commands

Command words are replaced when a phrase is finalised. Chinese commands apply to Chinese recognition, English commands to English recognition; the table follows the selected recognition language.

What this tool is

SpeechToText ports the online dictation of speechnotes.co: press Start dictation and speak normally into the microphone - your browser turns speech into text in real time and drops it at the caret. After a few seconds of silence it reopens the session by itself, so you never click twice. While listening you can switch the recognition language and toggle spoken punctuation and auto-capitalisation, and everything is saved in this browser so it is still here when you come back.

Like the reference site, nothing is recorded or uploaded here. Recognition is done by the browser's own Web Speech API: Chrome and Edge send audio to their own speech services, Safari uses on-device recognition, and this page only ever receives the resulting text - it has no recording interface and cannot store any audio. That is why there is no time limit and no quota; the trade-off is that cloud recognition needs a network connection.

Features

How to use

  1. Choose the recognition language (English (United States) for English, Chinese (Simplified) for Mandarin).
  2. Press "Start dictation" and click "Allow" in the browser's microphone prompt.
  3. Speak normally - text appears in real time; say "period", "comma" or "new line" where you want punctuation.
  4. Results land at the caret and stay editable; after a long silence it keeps listening on its own.
  5. Press "Stop dictation" when done, then copy, download txt/Word or print to PDF.

FAQ

Why does Start do nothing, or say it is unsupported?
Web Speech recognition is available on desktop Chrome, Edge and Safari only; Firefox, most mobile browsers (including third-party browsers on iOS) and many embedded WebViews do not expose the SpeechRecognition interface. Open this page in desktop Chrome or Edge and make sure the microphone permission for the site is set to "Allow".
Is my voice uploaded?
Not to this site. Recognition is done by the browser's own Web Speech service: Chrome and Edge send audio to their respective cloud speech services - that is between you and your browser vendor - and this page only receives the recognised text. It has no recording API and cannot store audio. If cloud recognition is a concern, use Safari's on-device recognition or an offline dictation app.
The Chinese punctuation is not accurate - what can I do?
Chinese recognition output carries no punctuation of its own, so this tool adds it through spoken commands: say the Chinese words for period, comma and new line. If a command is misheard, slow down and move closer to the mic, or switch spoken punctuation off and add marks by hand; the recogniser also inserts some punctuation on its own, and both can coexist.
Why does it stop by itself after a while?
That is browser behaviour: continuous recognition fires end after a longer silence or on session timeout. This tool listens for end and reopens a fresh session about 0.25 s later, so normally you only see the status blink while text keeps flowing. If it stays stopped, the mic is usually held by another program or permission was revoked - check and press Start again.
Can I lose the text? Can I export it?
No: every finalised phrase is written into this browser's localStorage, so a refresh or restart restores it (unless you press Clear or wipe browser data). Export supports copy, .txt download, Word (.doc) download and print / save-as-PDF, so you can keep working on it elsewhere.
