Yuan Ze University

Yuan Ze University (YZU) is a private university in Zhongli District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan, China. It was founded in 1989 by the Far Eastern Group as the Yuan Ze Institute of Technology and was renamed Yuan Ze University in 1997.元智大学（Yuan Ze University，简称 YZU）位于中国台湾桃园市中坜区，由远东集团于 1989 年创办，初名元智工学院，1997 年改名为元智大学。

The university is named in memory of Hsu Yuan-Ze, the father of Far Eastern Group founder Hsu Yu-Ziang, and it is governed by a board chaired by Hsu Yu-Ziang's son Douglas Hsu, who also chairs the Far Eastern Group.校名「元智」取自远东集团创办人徐有庠之父徐元智，用以纪念先人；学校董事会由徐有庠之子、远东集团董事长徐旭东主持。

YZU teaches about 8,763 students through six colleges and 26 departments and graduate programmes, and it occupies a 23.91-hectare campus at the border of Zhongli and Bade, within walking distance of Neili railway station.元智大学现有 6 个学院、26 个系所，在校生约 8,763 人；校区位于中坜与八德交界，占地 23.91 公顷，步行可达内坜火车站。

History

• A preparatory office for the Yuan Ze Institute of Technology was established in 1987, two years before the first students arrived, on land chosen by Hsu Yu-Ziang in what was then the open countryside of Neili.元智工学院筹备处于 1987 年设立，比首届学生入学早两年；校地由徐有庠选定，当时内坜一带仍是空旷乡野。
• The institute opened in 1989 with five departments, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, information engineering and industrial engineering, and enrolled its first cohort of about 100 students.元智工学院于 1989 年开学，设化学工程、电机工程、机械工程、资讯工程与工业工程 5 个学系，首届学生约 100 人。
• Master's programmes in chemical engineering and industrial engineering were added in 1990, followed by master's courses in mechanical engineering and in electrical and information engineering in 1991.1990 年增设化学工程与工业工程硕士班，1991 年又增设机械工程硕士班及电机与资讯工程硕士班。

• Hsu Yu-Ziang, founder of the Far Eastern Group, established Yuan Ze in 1989 under the principle of taking from society and giving back to society, and named it after his father Hsu Yuan-Ze.徐有庠是远东集团创办人，1989 年秉持「取诸社会、用诸社会」的宗旨创办元智，并以父亲徐元智之名命名。
