The University of Pretoria is a public research university in Pretoria, South Africa, founded on 4 March 1908 as the Pretoria campus of the Transvaal University College, and today one of the largest contact universities in the country, organised into nine faculties plus the Gordon Institute of Business Science.比勒陀利亚大学是位于南非比勒陀利亚的一所公立研究型大学，1908 年 3 月 4 日作为德兰士瓦大学学院的比勒陀利亚校区创办，如今是全国最大的面授大学之一，下设九个学院及戈登商学院。

History

• The origins of the university lie in proposals put before the Volksraad of the South African Republic in 1889, which led to the South African School of Mines founded in Kimberley in 1896, moved to Johannesburg in 1904 and renamed the Transvaal Technical Institute, and renamed the Transvaal University College in 1906.该校的源流可追溯到 1889 年提交南非共和国议会（Volksraad）的提案，该提案促成了 1896 年在金伯利创办的南非矿业学校，1904 年迁往约翰内斯堡并改称德兰士瓦技术学院，1906 年又改称德兰士瓦大学学院。

• The first four professors were the economist H.Th. Reinink, the classicist J. Purves, the educationist D.F. du Toit Malherbe and the physicist A.C.
