University of Macau

The University of Macau (UM) is a public comprehensive research university in Macao, established by the Macao legislature in 1991, whose predecessor, the private University of East Asia, was founded in 1981.澳门大学（University of Macau，简称澳大）是位于澳门的公立综合性研究型大学，1991 年由澳门立法会依法设立，其前身是 1981 年创办的私立东亚大学。

Its main campus lies on Hengqin Island on land leased to Macao and governed under Macao law, covers 1.09 square kilometres and is linked to Taipa by an underwater tunnel without border controls.该校主校区位于横琴岛，土地租借给澳门并按澳门法律管辖，占地 1.09 平方公里，经一条海底隧道与氹仔相连而无需边检查验。

History

• The university traces its origins to 1978, when a group of Hong Kong businessmen, acting through Ricci Island West Ltd, applied to the Government of Portuguese Macau for land on which to open a private university.澳大的历史可追溯至 1978 年，当时一批香港商人以 Ricci Island West 有限公司名义，向葡属澳门政府申请土地开办一所私立大学。

Academics

• Teaching at UM is delivered by ten faculties, namely Arts and Humanities, Business Administration, Design, Education, Engineering, Information Science and Computing, Law, Medicine, Science and Social Sciences, alongside an Honours College, a Graduate School and a Centre for Continuing Education.澳大的教学由十个学院承担，即人文学院、工商管理学院、设计学院、教育学院、工学院、信息科学与计算学院、法学院、医学院、理学院与社会科学学院，另设荣誉学院、研究生院及持续进修中心。

Campus
