History
- The Florida Legislature authorised a new public university in east-central Florida on 10 June 1963, when Governor Farris Bryant signed Senate Bill No. 125, and local officials had lobbied for the campus as the population and the workforce around the Space Coast grew in the early 1960s.1963 年 6 月 10 日,佛罗里达州州长法里斯·布赖恩特签署第 125 号参议院法案,批准在佛罗里达中东部创办一所新的公立大学;1960 年代初,随着太空海岸一带人口与劳动力增长,当地官员一直为设立该校奔走。
- Former Senate President William A. Shands and Senator Beth Johnson were among the bill's principal backers, and the institution was founded as a coeducational state university with the mission of educating students for space-age careers in engineering and other technological professions.前参议院议长威廉·A·尚兹与参议员贝丝·约翰逊是该法案的主要推动者;该校以男女同校的州立大学形式创办,使命是为工程等技术职业培养太空时代所需的人才。
- On 24 January 1964 the Florida Board of Regents bought 1,000 acres of undeveloped land along Alafaya Trail in north-east Orange County for 500,000 dollars, and area residents later donated another 227 acres and helped raise more than one million dollars toward the site.1964 年 1 月 24 日,佛罗里达州校董会以 50 万美元购得奥兰治县东北部阿拉法亚小径沿线 1,000 英亩未开发土地;当地居民其后又捐出 227 英亩,并为校址筹措逾 100 万美元。
