Universiti Sains Malaysia, abbreviated USM, is a public research university in Malaysia and the oldest higher education institution in northern Malaysia as well as the second oldest in the country.马来西亚理科大学（简称理大，缩写 USM）是马来西亚的一所公立研究型大学，也是马来西亚北部历史最悠久的高等教育机构，并是该国第二古老的高等院校。

History

• The idea of a university in Penang was first raised by D. S. Ramanathan in the State Assembly in 1959 and crystallised when he was appointed chairman of the Penang University Project committee.在槟城设立大学的构想最早由 D. S. Ramanathan 于 1959 年在州议会提出，并在其出任槟城大学项目委员会主席后逐渐成形。
