The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, known as HKUST, is a public research university in Clear Water Bay, Hong Kong, and the youngest of the territory's major universities.香港科技大学（The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology），简称科大，是一所位于香港清水湾的公立研究型大学，也是香港主要大学中最年轻的一所。

Opened in 1991 and focused on science, engineering, business and technology, it is known for research and entrepreneurship and ranks 33rd in the 2027 QS World University Rankings.学校于 1991 年开办，侧重科学、工程、商学与技术，以研究与创业著称，在 2027 年 QS 世界大学排名中位列全球第 33。

History

• The decision to found a third university in Hong Kong came in the 1980s, when the government sought to expand higher education in science and technology.创办香港第三所大学的决定产生于二十世纪八十年代，当时政府希望扩充科学与技术领域的高等教育。

• The institution was formally named the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in January 1987, after the name was chosen from more than a hundred suggestions.1987 年 1 月，学校正式定名为香港科技大学，这一名称是从一百多个建议中选出的。

• University status was granted on 10 April 1988, and the university was officially opened on 10 October 1991.学校于 1988 年 4 月 10 日获得大学名衔，并于 1991 年 10 月 10 日正式开幕。

Academics

• HKUST is organised into schools of science, engineering, business and management, and humanities and social science, together with interdisciplinary programmes.学校设有理学院、工学院、工商管理学院与人文社会科学学院，并开设有跨学科项目。

Campus

• The campus covers about 60 hectares on a hillside at Tai Po Tsai in Sai Kung, overlooking Clear Water Bay in the New Territories.校园位于新界西贡大埔仔的山坡上，占地约 60 公顷，可俯瞰清水湾。
