The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is a research university in Longgang District, Shenzhen, Guangdong, established under the mainland regulations on Sino-foreign cooperative education and approved by the Ministry of Education on 21 March 2014.香港中文大学（深圳）是位于广东省深圳市龙岗区的研究型大学，按内地《中外合作办学条例》设立，并于 2014 年 3 月 21 日获教育部批准正式成立。

The university was created by the Chinese University of Hong Kong together with the Shenzhen Municipal Government, with Shenzhen University as the mainland partner, and the two campuses describe their relationship as one brand with two campuses.该校由香港中文大学与深圳市人民政府共同创办，深圳大学为内地合作方，两校把彼此关系表述为「一个品牌，两个校园」。

It placed in the 401-500 band of the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2026, did not enter the QS World University Rankings 2027 or the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027, and was not included in the U.S. News Best Global Universities list for 2026-2027.该校在 2026 年软科世界大学学术排名中位列第 401-500 名区间，未进入 2027 年 QS 世界大学排名与 2027 年泰晤士高等教育世界大学排名，也未进入 2026-2027 年度 U.S. News 全球大学榜单。

History

• Cooperation between CUHK and mainland institutions began in the late 1970s, and by the 2000s the university had helped establish the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and had opened the CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute.港中大与内地的合作始于 1970 年代末；到 2000 年代，港中大已与中国科学院共建深圳先进技术研究院，并设立了香港中文大学深圳研究院。
• In 2009 the CUHK Council created a task force to examine a Shenzhen campus, insisting that academic quality match the Hong Kong campus, and vice-president Xu Yangsheng opened talks with Shenzhen officials in 2010.2009 年，港中大校董会成立专责小组研究在深圳设立校园的可行性，坚持学术质量须与香港校区相当；2010 年，副校长徐扬生开始与深圳方面接触洽谈。
• On 6 February 2010 CUHK and the Shenzhen Municipal Government signed a memorandum of understanding on educational cooperation that envisaged an institution then called CUHK Shenzhen College.2010 年 2 月 6 日，港中大与深圳市人民政府签署教育合作备忘录，研议设立当时称为香港中文大学深圳学院的办学机构。
• A framework agreement signed at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on 12 March 2011 committed Shenzhen to provide about 100 hectares near Universiade Town in Longgang free of charge and to pay operating subsidies at the standard applied to local universities.2011 年 3 月 12 日，双方在北京钓鱼台国宾馆签署合作框架协议，深圳方面承诺划出龙岗大运城附近约 100 公顷土地免费使用，并按深圳本地高校标准给予办学补贴。
• The regulations barred overseas entities, Hong Kong included, from founding educational institutions on their own, so CUHK abandoned its first preference for an independent university and agreed to a joint venture with Shenzhen University.内地条例禁止境外（含港澳台）组织独立设立教育机构，港中大因此放弃最初独立建校的设想，改为与深圳大学合办。
• Mayor Xu Qin objected that the name CUHK Shenzhen College would be read as a subordinate unit of CUHK, CUHK rejected the alternative Shenzhen CUHK, and the Ministry of Education eventually approved the exceptional title The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.时任市长许勤认为「香港中文大学深圳学院」会被误读为港中大的二级学院，港中大又否决了「深圳香港中文大学」，教育部最终特批「香港中文大学（深圳）」这一当时中外合办大学中唯一的例外命名。
• CUHK and Shenzhen University signed their cooperation agreement on 4 July 2011, the Ministry of Education approved preparatory work in 2012, and a groundbreaking ceremony took place at the Longgang site on 11 October 2012.2011 年 7 月 4 日，港中大与深圳大学正式签署合作协议；2012 年教育部批准筹建，同年 10 月 11 日在龙岗校址举行批筹暨开工仪式。
• A detailed agreement with the municipal government followed in March 2013, together with a governing council of sixteen members, eight appointed by each university, chaired by CUHK vice-chancellor Shen Zuyao.2013 年 3 月，学校与深圳市政府签订详细办学协议，并组成十六人理事会，两校各委任八人，由港中大校长沈祖尧出任理事长。
• On 31 July 2013 the council appointed Xu Yangsheng, then a CUHK vice-president, as the first president of the Shenzhen university for a four-year term beginning on 1 August.2013 年 7 月 31 日，理事会聘任时任港中大副校长的徐扬生为港中大（深圳）首任校长，任期四年，自 8 月 1 日起生效。
• The Ministry of Education sent formal approval to the Guangdong provincial government on 21 March 2014, and the university held its opening ceremony on 2 September 2014 with a first cohort of 313 students.2014 年 3 月 21 日，教育部正式致函广东省人民政府批准设立该校；2014 年 9 月 2 日，学校举行开学典礼，迎来首批 313 名学生。

• Two Nobel laureate laboratories opened on 10 April 2017, the Warshel Institute for Computational Biology under Arieh Warshel and the Kobilka Institute of Innovative Drug Discovery under Brian Kobilka.2017 年 4 月 10 日，学校成立瓦谢尔计算生物研究院与科比尔卡创新药物与转化医学研究院，分别由诺贝尔化学奖得主阿里耶·瓦谢尔与布莱恩·科比尔卡领衔。

• In September 2025 the university became one of the first Sino-foreign cooperative institutions admitted to the Ministry of Education list of universities entitled to recommend graduates for postgraduate study without entrance examinations.2025 年 9 月，学校成为首批进入教育部推免资格高校名单的中外合作办学高校，可推荐优秀应届本科毕业生免试攻读研究生。
• Shenzhen Hetao College, which CUHK-Shenzhen led in preparing, opened in September 2025 with 237 first-year students from 37 universities in the mainland, Hong Kong and Macao.由港中大（深圳）牵头筹建的深圳河套学院于 2025 年 9 月开学，首批 237 名新生来自内地与港澳的 37 所高校。

Academics

• The university comprises eight schools and a graduate school, offering 28 undergraduate majors, 32 taught postgraduate programmes and 31 research postgraduate programmes as of June 2026.截至 2026 年 6 月，学校设有八个学院与研究生院，开设 28 个本科专业、32 个授课型研究生专业与 31 个研究型研究生专业。
• English is the main language of instruction, while Chinese language courses and some general education classes are taught in Mandarin.学校以英语为主要教学语言，中文课程与部分通识课程以普通话授课。

Campus

• The main campus stands at 2001 Longxiang Boulevard, Longcheng Street, Longgang District, inside the Shenzhen International University Park, about 15 kilometres northeast of central Shenzhen and 30 kilometres north of CUHK's Sha Tin campus.主校区位于龙岗区龙城街道龙翔大道 2001 号，地处深圳国际大学园内，距深圳市中心约 15 公里，距港中大沙田校区约 30 公里。
• The site was previously occupied by the Universiade cultural park, the Universiade shooting range and adjoining land, and the built area covered about 1.33 million square metres of land with 670,000 square metres of floor space as of May 2024.校址原为深圳大运会文化园、大运会射击场及邻近空地；截至 2024 年 5 月，建成区占地约 133 万平方米，建筑面积约 67 万平方米。

• The Xili campus in Nanshan District, launched in March 2026, forms part of the first phase of the Shenzhen University Town international campus shared with Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School and Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen.西丽校区位于南山区深圳大学城，于 2026 年 3 月正式启动，是深圳大学城国际校区一期的核心组成，与北京大学深圳研究生院、清华大学国际研究生院、哈尔滨工业大学（深圳）共享该片区。
• Four free shuttle routes link the three zones, a weekday cross-border coach connects the campus with CUHK in Sha Tin for staff, student groups and invited guests, and the nearby Dayun Center and Dayun metro stations serve lines 16, 3 and 14.校内四条免费穿梭巴士线路连接上、中、下园；工作日开行往返港中大沙田校区的跨境直通巴士，仅限教职员、学生团体与受邀嘉宾；周边大运中心站与大运站可乘深圳地铁 16 号线、3 号线与 14 号线。

Reputation

• CUHK-Shenzhen placed in the 401-500 band of the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2026 and has repeatedly led the ARWU ranking of Chinese cooperative universities.港中大（深圳）在 2026 年软科世界大学学术排名中位列第 401-500 名区间，并连年在软科中国合作办学大学排名中位居第一。
• ARWU is the only global overall ranking in which the university appears under its own name, because it has not supplied data to most international ranking exercises.软科是该校唯一以自身名义进入的全球综合性排名，学校未向多数国际排名机构提供数据。

• The decision to award CUHK degrees to Shenzhen graduates drew criticism from some CUHK alumni in Hong Kong, who argued that the certificate should name Shenzhen and Shenzhen University, and CUHK replied that the degree is conferred by CUHK and that its Senate approved the certificate layout in 2015.向深圳毕业生颁发港中大学位的安排曾遭部分在港校友批评，他们认为证书应注明深圳与深圳大学；港中大回应称学位由港中大颁授，证书版式已于 2015 年经港中大教务会批准。

Student life

• The university continues CUHK's college system with eight residential colleges, and every full-time student and staff member belongs to one of them.学校承袭港中大书院制，设有八所成员书院，每名全日制学生与教职员都隶属于其中一所。
• Each college has its own charter and culture, a board, a college committee, a master, a warden in every hall and roughly one resident tutor for every 50 students.每所书院有自己的章程与文化，设董事会、院务委员会与院长，每栋宿舍设舍监，约每 50 名学生配一名宿舍导师。
• Unlike CUHK's colleges, those in Shenzhen cover postgraduate students as well, applicants do not state a college preference and are allocated at random, and no college has a student union independent of the university.与港中大书院不同，深圳的书院同样覆盖研究生；本科生入学时无须填报书院志愿，由学校随机分配；各书院也没有独立于大学的学生会。

• Xu Yangsheng, a robotics and intelligent systems researcher, has been president since August 2013, when he left his post as a CUHK vice-president to lead the new university.徐扬生为机器人与智能系统领域学者，自 2013 年 8 月起担任校长，此前他卸任港中大副校长一职来筹建这所新大学。
