Surgery Today

Surgery Today is the monthly journal of the Japan Surgical Society, and it has carried that name since 1992, while its volumes run back to 1971.《外科今日》是日本外科学会的月刊，今名从 1992 年用起，卷号却一直追到 1971 年。

The purpose sentence on its aims page asks for high-quality papers documenting recent advances and new developments in all fields of surgery, clinical and experimental alike.宗旨页那句要的是高质量论文，记录外科各领域的近期进展与新动向，临床与实验都算。

Its 2025 impact factor is 2.3 and the five-year figure 2.4, which places it in the second quartile of the surgery list. Twelve issues come out a year.2025 年影响因子 2.3，五年值 2.4，在外科类目里处第二区。一年出十二期。

Scope

• The field statement is short. It says all fields of surgery, without carving out a specialty, and experimental work stands beside clinical work on the same footing.范围声明很短，写的是外科的所有领域，不划专科，实验研究与临床研究站在同一层。

• Five manuscript types carry the journal. They are the review article, the original article, the short communication, the short technical report and the letter to the editor.刊物收五类稿子，综述、原著、短篇报道、术式短报与读者来信。

• Original articles divide once more into clinical originals and experimental originals, and the two appear as separate choices at submission.原著再分临床原著与实验原著，投稿时是两个并列选项。

• An original or a review carries an abstract of no more than 200 words, and the original arranges it under four headings, Purpose, Methods, Results and Conclusion.原著与综述的摘要都不超过 200 词，原著要按目的、方法、结果、结论四段排。

• The body of an original follows Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion in that order, and a fifth section is not part of the template.原著正文照引言、方法、结果、讨论的顺序排，模板里没有第五节。

• A letter to the editor stops at 500 words including its references. The board may accept or reject one, and may edit it as long as the writer's views are not misrepresented.读者来信连参考文献限 500 词。编委会可收可退，也可删改，前提是不歪曲作者的观点。

• Every paper also carries a mini-abstract of at most 250 characters and one key figure, sent as a separate file that the society uses when it posts the article.每篇还要一段不超过 250 字符的微型摘要与一张关键图，单独成文件，学会上网登文章时用它。

• References are numbered in the order they are cited, marked in square brackets, cut to the first six authors with et al beyond that, and abbreviated by Index Medicus.参考文献按引用顺序编号，方括号标注，作者超过六位只留前六位再加一个等字，刊名缩写照《医学索引》。

• Incomplete or badly prepared manuscripts are returned without review, and the formatting rules are strict about Word files, double spacing, wide margins, a plain ten-point font and automatic page numbers.不完整或不合格式的稿子原样退回，不进评议。格式要求很硬，Word 文件、双倍行距、宽页边距、十号正体，页码用自动编号。

• Reference lists give inclusive page numbers, and personal communications or unpublished data are cited in parentheses inside the text instead of the list.参考文献要给起止页码，私人通信与未发表数据放在正文的括号里，不进文献表。

• A signed certification form travels with the manuscript, uploaded through the submission system at the same time as the paper.一份签名的证明表随稿走，投稿时经投稿系统一并上传。

• A conflict of interest statement goes in front of the reference list, and the guidelines supply the wording to use.利益冲突声明放在参考文献之前，指南连句式都给了。

• Trials are asked for a registration number, and the guidelines list the registries they accept, with UMIN and ClinicalTrials.gov among them.临床试验要登记号，指南列了认的登记库，日本的 UMIN 与 ClinicalTrials.gov 都在里面。

History

• The first issue is dated March 1971, and the journal was then called The Japanese Journal of Surgery.创刊号署 1971 年 3 月，当时刊名是《日本外科杂志》。

• Under that title it ran twenty-one volumes, ending with volume 21, number 6, in November 1991.那个刊名出了二十一卷，到 1991 年 11 月的第 21 卷第 6 期为止。

• The new name starts with volume 22 in 1992, and the numbering was carried over rather than restarted.新刊名从 1992 年第 22 卷起用，卷号接着走，没有退回第一卷重来。

• Submissions under the old arrangement close on 15 May 2026, the journal pauses for a month, and it reopens on 15 June 2026. Revised manuscripts keep arriving through the old system.按旧办法的投稿到 2026 年 5 月 15 日为止，停一个月，6 月 15 日重开。修回的稿子仍走旧系统。

Editors

• Tomoharu Yoshizumi of Kyushu University in Fukuoka is editor-in-chief.主编是九州大学（福冈）的 Tomoharu Yoshizumi。

• Beside him sit seventy-one board members, and nearly all of them hold posts at Japanese university hospitals.他身边有七十一位编委，几乎都在日本的大学附属医院任职。

• The list runs from Hokkaido in the north to Kagoshima and the Ryukyus in the south.名单北起北海道，南到鹿儿岛与琉球。
