Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization

Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (commonly abbreviated as ''Struct. Multidiscip. Optim.') is an engineering optimisation journal published by Springer. It was founded in March 1989 by George I. N. Rozvany and took its present title in 2000, having previously been called Structural Optimization. It is the official journal of the International Society of Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization, with a 2025 impact factor of 4.5.Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization（常用缩写 Struct. Scope

• Scope: the journal publishes work at the converging frontier of design, engineering, simulation, additive manufacturing, artificial intelligence and digital twins, aiming to cover the whole chain for structural optimisation from mathematical foundations through algorithms to industrial application.学科定位： 刊载设计、工程、仿真、增材制造、人工智能与数字孪生的交汇处上的研究成果，宗旨是为结构优化这一方法给出从数学基础到算法实现再到工程落地的完整链条。
• Coverage: submissions must concern optimisation involving at least one major engineering discipline, such as solid, fluid, thermal, electric and electronic, or electromagnetic engineering. Multidisciplinary optimisation is covered where one of the disciplines involved is such a major physical performance area.收录范围： 要求优化问题至少涉及一门主要工程学科，如固体力学、流体力学、热学、电学与电子学、电磁学等；若某一学科本身即为上述主要物理性能之一，跨学科优化亦在收稿之列。
• Article types: nine types of paper are accepted. Alongside research papers and reviews there are brief notes, educational articles, book reviews, benchmark case studies, discussions and society news, with brief notes of no more than four pages enjoying priority in publication.体裁设置： 稿件类型多达九种，除研究论文与综述外，另设简讯、教育论文、书评、基准算例研究、讨论与学会消息，其中篇幅不超过四页的简讯享有优先发表的待遇。
• Deadlines for discussions and reviews: a discussion of an article already published in the journal must be submitted within twelve months of that article's appearance and must not exceed two pages. • Peer review: the journal follows a single-blind procedure. A paper is normally assessed by two referees from the relevant field worldwide together with one editor, and the editors state plainly that no article is accepted without two complete and final reviews评审方式： 期刊实行单匿名评审，通常由两位相关领域的全球审稿人与一位编辑共同评审，编辑部明确声明未经两份完整终审意见的文章不予接受，最终决定权仅在主编。 the decision to accept or reject rests with the editor-in-chief.
• Open access: the journal is a hybrid title. History

• March 1989: the journal was founded. The first issue of the first volume appeared that March, containing a one-page editorial statement and six original papers. It was published by Springer-Verlag at Heidelberg and Berlin.1989年3月： 期刊创刊，首卷首期于当年 3 月出版，内容为一页编辑部声明与六篇原创论文，出版方为 Springer-Verlag，地点在海德堡与柏林。
• 1989 to 1999: for more than a decade after its founding the journal was titled Structural Optimization, and the volumes of 1999 still carry that title. • October 1991: the International Society of Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization was founded, two and a half years after this journal appeared. • Change in frequency: the journal began with four issues a year. • Present publisher: the journal has never changed publisher since its founding. • Editor-in-chief: the journal is led by Dr Ming Zhou of the Eastern Institute of Technology in Ningbo, China.现任主编： 主编为周明博士，任职于中国宁波东方理工大学。
• Co-editors: there are four co-editors: Wei Chen of Northwestern University in the United States, Gengdong Cheng of Dalian University of Technology in China, Glaucio H. Paulino of Princeton University in the United States and Ole Sigmund of the Technical University of Denmark. • Submission system: manuscripts are lodged through Editorial Manager.
