South China Normal University (SCNU) is a provincial public normal university in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, co-sponsored by the provincial government and the Ministry of Education and counted among the Double First-Class and Project 211 institutions.华南师范大学（SCNU）是位于中国广东省广州市的省属公立师范大学，由广东省人民政府与教育部共建，并列入「双一流」和「211 工程」建设高校。

It was founded on 1 August 1933 as the teachers college of Guangdong Provincial Xiangqin University and took its present name in October 1982, after decades in which it was a provincial education college and then a normal college.学校于 1933 年 8 月 1 日以广东省立勷勤大学师范学院之名创立，历经省立教育学院、师范学院等阶段，1982 年 10 月定名为华南师范大学。

History

• Guangdong Provincial Xiangqin University opened its teachers college on 1 August 1933 with Lin Liru as dean and three departments covering literature and history, mathematics, physics and chemistry, and natural history and geography.1933 年 8 月 1 日，广东省立勷勤大学师范学院成立，林砺儒任院长，设文史、数理化、博物地理三个学系。
• In March 1935 the teachers college became the education college of Xiangqin University and added a department of education, and in 1936 the whole university moved to Shiliugang on the edge of Guangzhou.1935 年 3 月，师范学院更名为勷勤大学教育学院并增设教育系；1936 年勷勤大学迁至广州石榴岗。
• In September 1937, as Japanese forces approached Guangzhou, the education college left Shiliugang, and in July 1938 it became an independent institution under the name Guangdong Provincial Education College.1937 年 9 月，广州行将沦陷，教育学院撤离石榴岗；1938 年 7 月，学院独立改办为广东省立教育学院。
• In September 1939 the college was renamed Guangdong Provincial College of Arts and Sciences, the provincial sports school was merged into it and a physical education section was added.1939 年 9 月，学院改称广东省立文理学院，广东省立体育专科学校并入并增设体育专修科。
• After the war the college returned to Shiliugang in September 1946, and in October 1950 it took the name Guangdong College of Arts and Sciences.抗战胜利后，学院于 1946 年 9 月迁回石榴岗，1950 年 10 月改称广东省文理学院。
• In June 1951 the Guangdong College of Arts and Sciences absorbed the teachers college of National Sun Yat-sen University and the education department of the private South China United University, forming South China Normal College with nine departments and one section.1951 年 6 月，广东省文理学院并入国立中山大学师范学院和私立华南联合大学教育系，成立华南师范学院，设 9 系 1 科。
• In 1952 the Guangzhou committee for university restructuring ordered the college to move to the former mint on Huanghua Road, and two months later to the Shipai site of the former Southern University, where it has remained since.1952 年，广州区高等学校院系调整工作委员会下令学院迁往黄华路原造币厂旧址，两个月后又调整到石牌原南方大学校址，此后一直在该地办学。
