Scope
The journal's editorial stance covers the full range from molecular basis to social and cultural factors, accepting both mechanistic research at the molecular level and studies of social factors at the population level, and it plainly emphasises translational reports that simultaneously highlight basic neurobiological mechanisms and clinical manifestations. It sets part of its content as invited special features, with the remaining pages devoted to high-quality unsolicited manuscripts.

The journal is a hybrid title. The subscription route charges authors nothing, while open access article processing charges can be met through institutional read and publish agreements. The publisher publishes neither an acceptance rate nor a review duration for this title, and the library's previous notes of relatively hard acceptance and a relatively slow four to eight weeks had no official basis and have been deleted. The journal is indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded and carries a 2025 impact factor of 5.7 and a CiteScore of 10.9.
