Six months after online publication, authors may self-archive the accepted manuscript on their own personal website or in a funder or institutional repository.
History
- 2000: the journal was founded in London by Nature Publishing Group as one of the first three Nature Reviews titles, starting out alongside Nature Reviews Cancer and Nature Reviews Genetics and establishing the monthly review format that became the series standard.2000年: 期刊由自然出版集团在伦敦创刊,是该集团最早建立的三本 Nature Reviews 刊物之一,与 Nature Reviews Cancer 及 Nature Reviews Genetics 同期起步,确立了以月度综述为基本体裁的办刊传统。
- Launch rationale: a series of advances in molecular, developmental and cognitive neuroscience, stimulated by the advent of powerful experimental techniques and theoretical approaches, rendered some of the most enduring neurobiological questions increasingly tractable. This explosion of knowledge in turn created a need for new tools to organize and communicate the information efficiently, and the journal was created to meet that need.
- 2010: to mark ten years of publication, the journal invited the authors of its most highly cited articles to look back on progress in their fields and on the influence their articles had achieved, and to look ahead to the following decade, with the contributions appearing in a dedicated feature.2010年: 创刊十周年之际,期刊邀请历年高被引文章的作者回顾各自领域的研究进展与文章所产生的影响,并展望未来十年,相关特辑集中刊出。
- 2020: twenty years after launch the journal published another feature marking the anniversary, reviewing the trajectory of the discipline over two decades and inviting authors to set out the agenda for the next phase of neuroscience.2020年: 创刊二十周年之际,期刊再次出版特辑,回顾二十年间的学科脉络,并邀请作者就神经科学的下一阶段议程撰文。
- Publisher: Nature Publishing Group was first a publishing division of Macmillan, and in 2015 it merged with the Springer Science and Business Media Group, so the title is now published under the Springer Nature name. The impact factor stood at 38.755 in 2021 and eased back as the field fluctuated overall to 29 in 2025, keeping the journal among the leading titles in the neurosciences. [2]
Editors
- Chief Editor: the journal is led by Darran Yates, who was awarded his PhD in neuroscience by the University of Bath for work on glutamate-gated chloride channels in nematodes, then carried out two postdoctoral projects at the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College London, one on the assembly and axonal transport of neurofilaments and one on binding partners of the amyloid precursor protein. He joined Nature Reviews Neurology as an Associate Editor in February 2009 and has led this journal since February 2011 from the London office.
