History

• It was founded by Alexander Macmillan and first edited by Norman Lockyer, and its first issue was published on 4 November 1869该刊由 Alexander Macmillan 创办，首任主编为 Norman Lockyer，首期于 1869 年 11 月 4 日出版。
• Its original mission statement, first published on 11 November 1869, set out to serve scientists and to disseminate science to the public其最初的办刊宗旨于 1869 年 11 月 11 日首次发表，着眼于服务科学家并面向公众传播科学。
