History

• After the United States Secretary of State John Hay suggested that the 30 million US dollars Boxer Indemnity payable by China to the United States was excessive, President Theodore Roosevelt and the US Congress reduced the Qing indemnity by 10.8 million US dollars on condition that the money fund Chinese students going to American universities.在美国国务卿 John Hay 指出中国应付美国的庚子赔款三千万美元过高之后，美国总统西奥多·罗斯福与美国国会将清廷赔款核减一千万八百万美元，条件是该款用作中国学生赴美留学的奖学金。
