The National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, commonly called Taiwan Tech and known as NTUST, is a public research university of applied science and technology in Taipei, Taiwan, and the leading technical university of the island's vocational education system, where about 10,500 students are enrolled across five campuses.国立台湾科技大学（National Taiwan University of Science and Technology），通称（Taiwan Tech），简称（NTUST），是位于台湾台北的一所公立应用科技研究型大学，也是台湾技职教育体系中的龙头科技大学，五个校区共有约 10,500 名学生。

It was founded on 1 August 1974 as the National Taiwan Institute of Technology, the first higher education institution of its kind in the national technical and vocational system, and was upgraded and renamed on 1 August 1997.该校于 1974 年 8 月 1 日以「国立台湾工业技术学院」之名创办，是台湾技术职业教育体系中第一所此类高等教育机构，并于 1997 年 8 月 1 日升格并更名为现名。

History

• On 1 October 1973 the Ministry of Education set up a preparatory office for a national institute of technology, in response to the shortage of highly trained engineers and managers created by Taiwan's rapid industrial growth, which by the 1970s had become the backbone of the island's export-driven economy.1973 年 10 月 1 日，为应对台湾工业快速发展所造成的高素质工程师与管理人才短缺，教育部设立了国立工业技术学院的筹备处；到 1970 年代，工业已成为台湾出口导向经济的中枢。

• The National Taiwan Institute of Technology was formally founded on 1 August 1974 with four departments, namely industrial management, electronic engineering, mechanical engineering and textile engineering.1974 年 8 月 1 日，国立台湾工业技术学院正式成立，初期设有工业管理、电子工程、机械工程与纺织工程四个科系。
