National Taipei University of Technology (Taipei Tech) is a public applied research university in the Daan District of Taipei, Taiwan, and one of the earliest institutions of higher industrial education in the country.国立台北科技大学（简称北科大、臺北科大，Taipei Tech）是位于台湾台北市大安区的一所公立应用研究型大学，也是台湾最早的高等工业教育机构之一。

Founded in 1912 as the School of Industrial Instruction under the Japanese colonial Government-General of Taiwan, it was renamed National Taipei University of Technology in 1997 and today enrols more than ten thousand students in seven colleges.学校于 1912 年由日治时期的台湾总督府设立，初名工业讲习所，1997 年定名为国立台北科技大学，现设七个学院、在校学生逾一万人。

History

• The school began in 1912 as the School of Industrial Instruction, set up by the Education Bureau of the Japanese colonial Government-General of Taiwan at Daan Village in Taipei to train workers for the island's early industries.学校创办于 1912 年，时称工业讲习所，由日治时期台湾总督府学务部在台北大安庄设立，旨在为台湾早期工业培养技术人才。

• In 1914 it was renamed the Government-General Industrial Instruction School, and in 1918 a Government-General Industrial School was added alongside it to widen the range of training on offer.1914 年，讲习所改名为台湾总督府工业讲习所；1918 年又增设台湾总督府工业学校，以扩大技术培训的门类。

• In 1919 the institution was reorganised as the Taiwan Public Industrial School of Taipei, the point at which the words Taipei and public industrial school were first fixed to the school and its campus.1919 年，学校改组为台湾公立台北工业学校，自此「台北」与「公立工业学校」两个名号正式与学校及其校址绑定。

• After Japan's surrender in 1945 the school became the Taiwan Provincial Taipei Industrial Vocational School, and in 1948 it was upgraded into the Provincial Taipei Institute of Technology, a junior college that trained mid-level engineers.1945 年日本投降后，学校改名台湾省立台北工业职业学校；1948 年升格为台湾省立台北工业专科学校，成为培养中级工程人才的专科院校。

• For the 1948 upgrade President Jian Zhuojian commissioned Professor Zhao Yurun to write the lyrics of a new school song, with music by the teacher Wu Juche, and the school council approved it that summer.配合 1948 年的升格，校长简卓坚委托赵玉润教授撰写新校歌歌词，由时任音乐教师吴居彻谱曲，当年夏天经校政会议审议通过并颁行。

• In 1959 the discipline director Li Yongxiang proposed the four-character motto Sincerity, Simplicity, Precision and Diligence, which a school council meeting chaired by President Zhang Dan adopted.1959 年，训导主任李咏湘教授倡议以「诚、朴、精、勤」四字为校训，经张丹校长主持的校务会议通过。

• In 1981 the institution passed from the Taiwan Provincial Government to the Ministry of Education and was renamed the National Taipei Institute of Technology.1981 年，学校由台湾省政府改隶教育部，并改名为国立台北工业专科学校。

• In 1994 the college was upgraded to the National Taipei Institute of Technology, and in 1997 it achieved full university status as the National Taipei University of Technology.1994 年，学校升格为国立台北技术学院；1997 年，再升格为国立台北科技大学，取得完整大学地位。

• In 2016 the National Taoyuan Agricultural and Industrial Vocational High School was merged into the university as its affiliated senior high school, the first case in Taiwan of a vocational high school being absorbed by a university.2016 年，国立桃园高级农工职业学校并入学校，成为国立台北科技大学附属桃园农工高级中等学校，是台湾首例高职并入大学的案例。

• In 2017 the university signed a cooperation agreement with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and opened the City Science Lab, the fifth MIT overseas laboratory and the first of its kind in Taiwan.2017 年，学校与美国麻省理工学院签署合作协议并成立城市科技实验室，是麻省理工在海外授权的第五间实验室，也是台湾第一间。

• On 17 November 2017 Professor Wang Sea-fue of the Department of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering was elected the university's fourteenth president, and he took office on 1 February 2018.2017 年 11 月 17 日，材料及资源工程系特聘教授王锡福当选学校第十四任校长，并于 2018 年 2 月 1 日正式就任。

• In 2023 the university founded the Graduate Institute of Space Systems Engineering, the only such institute in Taiwan's vocational higher education system, pooling resources from its electrical and mechanical colleges.2023 年，学校成立太空系统工程研究所，是台湾技职高教体系中唯一此类研究所，并整合了校内电资学院与机电学院的教学资源。

• Taipei Tech is organised into seven colleges, covering mechanical and electrical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science, engineering, management, design, humanities and social sciences, and the Innovation Frontier Institute of Research for Science and Technology.北科大设有七个学院，分别为机电学院、电资学院、工程学院、管理学院、设计学院、人文与社会科学学院，以及创新前瞻科技研究学院。

• The main campus stands in the Daan District of central Taipei, at 1 Section 3 Zhongxiao East Road, in the middle of the city's commercial and creative quarter.主校区位于台北市中心大安区忠孝东路三段 1 号，地处城市商业与文创核心地带。

• The university motto, adopted in 1959, is Sincerity, Simplicity, Precision and Diligence, a four-character ideal put forward by the discipline director Li Yongxiang and approved by President Zhang Dan.学校校训为「诚、朴、精、勤」，于 1959 年由训导主任李咏湘倡议、张丹校长主持的校务会议通过。

• Zhang Dan, who was president in 1959, approved the adoption of the university motto Sincerity, Simplicity, Precision and Diligence proposed by the discipline director Li Yongxiang.1959 年时任校长的张丹，批准了由训导主任李咏湘倡议的校训「诚、朴、精、勤」。

• Jian Zhuojian, president at the time of the 1948 upgrade, commissioned the new school song and guided the college through its transformation into a junior college of technology.1948 年升格时期的校长简卓坚，委制新校歌并带领学校完成向工业专科学校的转型。
