Molecular Pain
Molecular Pain is a fully open-access specialist journal of pain research, founded in 2005 by BioMed Central and published by SAGE Publications since 2016. It filled the gap of a dedicated forum for the molecular aspects of pain research, and is an electronic-only journal, appearing as one volume a year with articles published online first.《分子疼痛》(Molecular Pain)是一份完全开放获取的疼痛研究专科期刊,二〇〇五年由生物医学中心(BioMed Central)创办,二〇一六年起转由赛吉出版(SAGE Publications)出版。
Scope
Molecular Pain takes pain research at the cellular, subcellular and molecular levels as its brief, its official scope stressing the integration of pain research with molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, modern electrophysiology and neurobiology. Its principal subject areas include:Molecular Pain
- Physiological and pathological pain: the molecular mechanisms of physiological pain, together with peripheral and central mechanisms of chronic and neuropathic pain.
- Molecular and genomic approaches: identification and functional study of pain-related genes, ion channels and receptors, and the application of genomic methods.
- Signalling and plasticity: pain signalling pathways, synaptic plasticity and the molecular basis of central sensitisation.
- Electrophysiology and neurobiology: the application of modern electrophysiology to pain research, and the neurobiological mechanisms of pain.
- Methodology: the journal runs a dedicated section of short methodology articles, encouraging new techniques in pain research. [1]
History
- Founding (2005): the journal was founded in London in 2005 by BioMed Central, explicitly to fill the gap of a forum for the molecular aspects of pain research创刊(二〇〇五年): 本刊于二〇〇五年由生物医学中心创办于伦敦,创办时即明确以填补疼痛研究分子层面论坛的空白为宗旨;创办编辑为卓敏。 the founding editor was Min Zhuo.[2]
- Publisher transition (2016): the journal moved to SAGE Publications from 2016, volume twelve being the first SAGE volume, and has run on the SAGE platform since出版方易主(二〇一六年): 自二〇一六年起本刊转由赛吉出版公司出版,赛吉卷十二即二〇一六年卷,此后一直在赛吉平台运营;本刊无学会背景。 it has no society affiliation.[2]
- Annual volumes: the present model is one volume a year, volume 21 for 2025 and volume 22 for 2026, with articles published online first on acceptance and the whole volume collected as a single issue. [3]
- Open access and charges: the journal has been fully open access since its founding, with article processing charges now of US3,000 for regular articles and US2,400 for short methodology articles. [4]
- Metric standing: the 2025 impact factor is 3.8, placing the journal in the second quartile of neuroscience and zone three of medicine in the Chinese Academy of Sciences ranking. [5]
Editors
The journal is run by two co-editors-in-chief, supported by five deputy editors, a managing editor and an editorial board of about fifty, with an advisory board including such figures of pain research as Borsook, Burnstock and Porreca. Official peer-review policy expects the review period not to exceed three weeks, and no acceptance rate is published. [6]
- Min Zhuo (founding editor and co-editor-in-chief): professor at the University of Toronto, founding editor of the journal, long working on the molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity and pain memory. [1]
- Jianguo Gu (co-editor-in-chief): professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, directing the journal's present editorial affairs jointly with Zhuo. [1]
