Macao Polytechnic University

Macao Polytechnic University, in Portuguese Universidade Politécnica de Macau and abbreviated MPU or UPM, is a public, multi-disciplinary and application-oriented university in Macao whose teaching began in 1981 inside the University of East Asia and which took its present name on 1 March 2022.澳門理工大學葡文作 Universidade Politécnica de Macau，簡稱「澳理大」或「理大」，英文縮寫 MPU 或 UPM，是一所公立、多學科、應用型大學，辦學始於 1981 年東亞大學旗下的理工學院，2022 年 3 月 1 日正式改用現名。

Six faculties cover applied science, health science and sport, language and translation, arts and design, humanities and social sciences and management, and the university teaches close to 6,000 full-time degree students while running training courses for more than 10,000 participants every year.大學設應用科學、健康科學及體育、語言及翻譯、藝術及設計、人文及社會科學、管理科學 6 個學院，攻讀全日制學位課程的學生近 6,000 人，每年另為 1 萬多人次提供各類培訓課程。

Its motto asks for competence at once general and specialised and for an interchange between Chinese and Western traditions, and the policy address of the Macao special administration for the 2022 financial year stated that the university should grow into a leading applied university for the Asia-Pacific region.大學以「普專兼擅、中西融通」為校訓，以「教學與科研並重」為方針，澳門特別行政區 2022 年財政年度施政報告提出要把澳門理工大學發展成亞太地區領先的應用型大學。

History

• The university dates its own foundation to 1981, when a polytechnic or applied-studies arm was established as a constituent college of the University of East Asia, the first degree-granting institution created in Macao.大學把創校之年定為 1981 年，該年東亞大學——澳門第一所可頒授學位的本地高等院校——設下屬的理工學院，即本大學的前身。

• After the University of East Asia was split into three institutions in 1991, that college was reconstituted as an independent Macao Polytechnic Institute, in Portuguese Instituto Politécnico de Macau, the name it kept for three decades.1991 年東亞大學一分為三，理工學院獨立改制為澳門理工學院，葡文作 Instituto Politécnico de Macau，此名沿用約三十年。

• The new institute assembled units with a long record of public schooling, among them the Technical School of the Chinese Affairs Bureau, the Public Administration Training Centre, the Academy of Visual Arts and the Technical School of the Health Bureau.新學院由數所具公立辦學歷史的學校合併組成，包括華務司技術學校、公共行政培訓中心、視覺藝術學院與衛生司技術學校。

• In 1992 the institute moved onto the Dongxi premises, its first purpose-allocated site, before the later relocation that fixed the address it still uses.1992 年學院遷往東曦閣校址，這是它第一處專用的辦學用地，其後才搬至沿用至今的校址。

• Work that began in 2002 to serve the fourth East Asian Games, staged in Macao in 2005, put up a sports pavilion and a mixed teaching block, and the block, named Huizhi Building, opened on 30 October 2003.為配合 2005 年東亞運動會而在 2002 年動工的工程新建一座體育館和一棟綜合樓，綜合樓命名為匯智樓，於 2003 年 10 月 30 日啟用。

• During the 2003 severe acute respiratory syndrome response the government moved the institute's higher school of health studies out of the main campus, so it taught for a time on the fifth floor of a rented waterfront building in the New Reclamation Area.2003 年為配合應對 SARS 的措施，政府把學院轄下的高等衛生學校遷出主校部，臨時租用新口岸獲多利大廈五樓上課，學院遂提出興建新校舍。

• Mingde Building, a seventeen-storey block of teaching rooms, laboratories, offices and halls of residence on the eastern edge of the main campus, was completed in 2010 with living space for 300 students on floors eleven to sixteen.明德樓於 2010 年建成，樓高 17 層，三至十層為教職員辦公室、課室與實驗室，十一至十六層是可容納 300 名學生的宿舍，用以緩解舊校園空間不足。

• In October 2013 the institute applied to use the old University of Macau campus at Taipa, on the avenue named after the priest Xu Risheng, land the university was vacating.2013 年 10 月，學院向政府申請使用位於氹仔徐日昇寅公馬路的澳門大學舊校園。

• On 18 August 2014 the Office for Higher Education Services arranged the free loan of the East Asia dormitory block to the institute for one academic year, and in 2015 the block passed to the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies as student housing.2014 年 8 月 18 日，高等教育輔助辦公室安排把舊校園的東亞樓無償借給學院使用一個學年，該樓其後於 2015 年全面交還澳門旅遊學院作學生宿舍。

• Move-in on 29 January 2016 created the Macao Polytechnic Institute Taipa Campus, first for the cultural and creative industries centre and then for the Portuguese-language and gaming teaching centres, ending the years of hired premises.2016 年 1 月 29 日學院正式遷入舊澳大校園並命名為氹仔校區，文化創意產業教學暨研究中心率先啟用，葡語教學暨研究中心、博彩教學暨研究中心隨後遷入，結束了租借場地辦學的歷史。

• Groundbreaking for a new library and office headquarters took place on 15 September 2020, the first higher-education teaching and research tower started after the fifth-term government of the special administration began.2020 年 9 月 15 日總部新圖書館連辦公大樓舉行動工典禮，這是第五屆澳門特區政府就任後首座動工興建的高等教育教研大樓。

• On 16 November 2021 the Chief Executive, Ho Iat-seng, used the policy address for the 2022 financial year to announce that the institute would be upgraded and renamed Macao Polytechnic University.2021 年 11 月 16 日，行政長官賀一誠發表 2022 年財政年度施政報告，宣佈學院將更名為澳門理工大學。

• On 25 February 2022 the Executive Council finished debating the draft regulation amending Administrative Regulation 28/2019 on the institute's statutes, the amended text commenced on 1 March 2022, and the former schools were restyled as faculties that same day.2022 年 2 月 25 日行政會完成討論修改第 28/2019 號行政法規《澳門理工學院章程》的草案，相關法規自 2022 年 3 月 1 日生效，學院同日更名為大學，原各高等學校改稱學院。

• A social affairs and culture secretariat order dated 19 July 2022 renewed the rector's mandate for two years with effect from 1 September 2022 under Administrative Regulation 8/2022, which republished the university statutes.根據第 8/2022 號行政法規重新公佈的大學章程，社會文化司司長於 2022 年 7 月 19 日的辦公室作出批示，續任校長一職，自 2022 年 9 月 1 日起生效，為期兩年。

• The legislature passed the legal regime of Macao Polytechnic University on 5 February 2024 in second and detailed debate, and Law 3/2024 was published in the Official Gazette on 19 February 2024 to commence on 1 April 2024, replacing regulation-based governance with its own law.2024 年 2 月 5 日立法會細則性通過《澳門理工大學法律制度》，同年 2 月 19 日公報刊登第 3/2024 號法律並自 4 月 1 日起生效，大學管治由行政法規層面升為法律層面。

• A land-transfer contract signed with the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone on 31 August 2026 secured campus ground at the Macao-Hengqin international education town, where postgraduate teaching opened in September 2026.2026 年 8 月 31 日大學與橫琴粵澳深度合作區簽署校區土地出讓合同，位於橫琴澳琴國際教育（大學）城的校區自 2026 年 9 月起開展以研究生教育為主的教學活動。

Academics

• The six faculties are Applied Sciences, Health Sciences and Physical Education, Language and Translation, Arts and Design, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Management Sciences, a spread the university describes as multi-disciplinary and applied rather than research-comprehensive.教學單位為應用科學學院、健康科學及體育學院、語言及翻譯學院、藝術及設計學院、人文及社會科學學院與管理科學學院 6 個學院，學科布局定位為多學科、應用型而非研究型綜合。

Campus

• Main administrative offices, a finance department and a public reception sit in the Sé district main campus, taken over from the Liceu de Macau in 1999, while teaching, library and residential blocks spread across further sites in Taipa, the New Reclamation Area and Hengqin.主校部位於澳門半島高美士街，1999 年接手利宵中學舊址，行政樓內設財務處與接待處，教學、圖書與宿舍設施另分佈於氹仔、新口岸與橫琴等地。

• Zhou Zhongrong, a doctorate in materials engineering from Ecole Centrale de Lyon and previously vice-president of Southwest Jiaotong University, has served as rector since 1 June 2026 and is vice-chair of the International Tribology Council.周仲榮為法國里昂中央大學材料工程博士，曾任西南交通大學副校長、機械工程學教授，自 2026 年 6 月 1 日出任校長，並任國際摩擦學理事會副主席。

• Chui Sai Cheong, president of the university's board of trustees, presided over the ceremony at government headquarters at which the new rector and vice-rector took their oaths in June 2026.澳門理工大學校董會主席崔世昌主持 2026 年 6 月新任校長與副校長在政府總部的宣誓儀式，校董會副主席為陸波。

• Wu Weishan, president of the Chinese Sculpture Institute and a professor of the university, cast a Confucius statue unveiled on its campus on 17 June 2014 and maintains a sculpture studio there.中國雕塑院院長、大學教授吳為山為校園創作孔子像，該像於 2014 年 6 月 17 日揭幕，其雕塑室長期設於明德樓大堂。

• Among athlete alumni, Jia Rui of the wushu squad won the first Asian Games gold medal ever taken by Macao, and Huang Junhua and Li Yi added further Asian Games wushu golds.校友中的運動員方面，武術名將賈瑞為澳門奪得歷史性首面亞運會金牌，黃俊華與李禕亦為亞運會武術金牌得主。

• Singers who trained at the university include Siu Fei, a Cantopop recording artist, and Chan Wai Man and Ngai Lek, both active on Macao and Hong Kong stages.出身該校的歌手包括英皇娛樂旗下粵語歌手小肥，以及活躍於港澳兩地的陳慧敏與倪力。

• Gu Naowen won the second series of the Hong Kong middle-aged singing contest staged by Television Broadcasts Limited, while Guan Anna took first runner-up in the 2008 Miss Macao pageant.古淖文為香港電視廣播有限公司歌唱選秀節目《中年好聲音 2》冠軍，關安娜則是 2008 年度澳門小姐競選亞軍。

• Wu Guoquan is recorded as the first professional boxer to come out of Macao and Zhu Zhuoxin as a well-known Macao graphic designer, while Bai Qiang works across music and visual art.吳國權是澳門首位職業拳擊手，朱焯信為澳門著名設計師，百強則在音樂與視覺藝術兩界活躍。

• Liu Jinjie is described as Macao's youngest international athletics referee, and the triathlete Xu Lang took an Asian Games bronze, both products of the university's sport-teaching system.澳門最年輕的國際田徑裁判劉晉杰與亞運會三項鐵人銅牌得主許朗，都出自大學的體育科學教學體系。
