Scope

• The journal prioritizes AI for materials, especially machine learning and data-driven materials science该刊以材料领域的人工智能为优先方向，尤其是机器学习与数据驱动的材料科学。
• Materials foundation models, AI agents and large language models, and generative AI with inverse design are explicitly named priorities材料基础模型、人工智能体与大语言模型，以及结合逆向设计的生成式人工智能，均为其明确列出的重点。
• Autonomous materials laboratories and self-driving experimentation belong to the core scope自主材料实验室与自动化实验属于核心范围。
• Software, codes and algorithms for materials computation and simulation are covered, as are high-throughput experimental technologies覆盖材料计算与模拟的软件、代码与算法，以及高通量实验技术。
• Materials data acquisition, standardization and database construction, including fusion of multi-source materials data, are within scope材料数据的采集、标准化与数据库构建（含多源材料数据融合）也在范围之内。

History

• The journal was announced on 11 April 2021 with the appointment of Tong-Yi Zhang as founding Editor-in-Chief, and its first issue collected five invited articles该刊于 2021 年 4 月 11 日宣布创办，同时任命张统一为创刊主编，首期汇集五篇邀稿文章。^[1]
• Tong-Yi Zhang is a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, founding dean of the Materials Genome Institute at Shanghai University and a founder of materials genome engineering in China张统一为中国科学院院士、上海大学材料基因研究院创刊院长，也是中国材料基因组工程的推动者之一。
• Xingjun Liu of the Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen, serves as Executive Editor and leads the materials genome and big data institute there哈尔滨工业大学（深圳）的刘兴军担任执行主编，并主持该校材料基因与大数据研究院工作。
• The journal was accepted into the Emerging Sources Citation Index with all articles from 2021 included, and received its first Journal Impact Factor of 5.6 in 2024该刊被（Emerging Sources Citation Index）收录，2021 年起的全部文章入库，2024 年获得首个影响因子 5.6。
• It publishes four issues a year and its Journal Impact Factor rose to 8.0 in 2025, placing it in the first quartile of multidisciplinary materials science该刊每年出版四期，2025 年影响因子升至 8.0，进入材料科学综合类第一四分位。

Editors

• The Editor-in-Chief is Tong-Yi Zhang, based at the Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen and Shanghai University, working on materials informatics and mechanics现任主编为张统一，任职于哈尔滨工业大学（深圳）与上海大学，研究材料信息学与力学。
• The Executive Editor is Xingjun Liu of the Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen, whose work covers materials genome and data-driven alloy design执行主编为哈尔滨工业大学（深圳）的刘兴军，研究涵盖材料基因与数据驱动合金设计。
• Associate editors are recruited internationally, and Artem R. Oganov joined the journal as an Associate Editor in 2024副编辑面向国际招聘，Artem R. Oganov 于 2024 年加入担任副编辑。
