History

• 2000年创刊： 期刊于 2000 年创刊，首任主编为 Leslie Kaelbling。Founded in 2000: the journal was established in 2000 with Leslie Kaelbling as its first editor-in-chief.
• 创刊背景： 创刊是机器学习史上著名的「出走」事件的结果——2001 年四十位《Machine Learning》编委集体辞职，认为互联网时代继续把论文锁在昂贵付费墙内不利于学界，遂另立开放获取的 JMLR。Background to the founding: the journal was born of a famous walkout, when forty editorial board members of the journal Machine Learning resigned in 2001, arguing that locking papers behind expensive paywalls harmed the community in the internet era, and founded the open access JMLR instead.
• 姊妹刊沿革： TMLR 于 2022 年推出，作为行动编辑制的快速发表通道，由 Cho、Hadsell 与 Larochelle 任主编。TMLR history: TMLR launched in 2022 as an action-editor venue for timely results, led by Kyunghyun Cho, Raia Hadsell and Hugo Larochelle.^[3]
