Journal of Exercise Rehabilitation
Journal of Exercise Rehabilitation is the bimonthly, open-access journal of the Korean Society of Exercise Rehabilitation, launched in 2005 and published under its present title since 2013. It spans basic, clinical and behavioural research on exercise as a rehabilitation modality, from muscle and metabolic physiology to neuropsychiatric care. Its 2025 Journal Impact Factor is 1.9, placing it in the second quartile of the Rehabilitation category.《运动康复杂志》是一份以运动康复为主题的国际期刊,创刊于 2005 年,2013 年起使用现名,读者遍及运动科学、康复医学与体育教育等领域。
Scope
- Exercise rehabilitation is treated as a field in its own right, with treatment targets and methods that differ from those of conventional rehabilitation medicine in several disease groups.
- A central premise is that supervised exercise can address conditions of modern society, including metabolic disorders, at low cost and with few adverse effects compared with drug-based care.
- Neurological and psychiatric conditions form a second cluster, covering depression, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and schizophrenia, where exercise is studied as an adjunct or independent intervention.
- The journal also argues that exercise programmes can substitute for parts of conventional care in economically disadvantaged regions, a claim it invites authors to test empirically rather than assert.
- Papers should identify the effects of exercise rehabilitation on specific diseases and clarify the mechanisms through which those effects are produced, rather than report outcomes alone.
- The basic research section welcomes cellular, molecular and physiological work on muscle plasticity, atrophy, apoptosis, inflammation and energy metabolism under exercise loading.
- Clinical research covers trials, cohort studies and case series that test exercise prescriptions in patients with musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, neurological or metabolic diagnoses.
- Exercise rehabilitation pedagogy examines how practitioners are trained, how programmes are designed for different ages and abilities, and how instruction is delivered in schools and clinics.
- The education section addresses curricula, certification and continuing training for exercise specialists, physiotherapists and allied health staff who deliver rehabilitation programmes.
- Psychological research considers motivation, adherence, self-efficacy, body image and mental health outcomes that shape whether an exercise regimen is sustained over months or years.
- Welfare studies look at access, equity, insurance coverage and community provision, asking who receives exercise rehabilitation and which groups are left outside formal programmes.
- Research articles, review articles and commissioned contributions are accepted, and the editorial board also invites papers that map emerging areas or settle contested measurement questions.
- Submission implies that the work is original, ethically conducted and not under consideration elsewhere, and accepted papers transfer copyright to the society.
- The intended readership includes exercise scientists, rehabilitation physicians, physiotherapists, sports coaches and policy makers who need evidence on which programmes work and for whom.
