Scope

• Novel materials for environmental applications cover the detection, quantification and removal of pollutants in soil, water, air and waste streams环境应用新材料方向覆盖土壤、水、空气与废物流中污染物的检测、定量与去除。
• Novel materials for energy and chemicals include carbon capture and conversion, renewable hydrogen, ammonia, methanol and solar fuels, and green chemicals能源与化学品应用新材料包括碳捕集与转化、可再生氢、氨、甲醇与太阳能燃料，以及绿色化学品。
• Physico-chemical-biological processes run from sedimentation, filtration, adsorption and ion exchange to membrane separation, electrolysis, bioreactors and constructed wetlands物理化学与生物过程从沉淀、过滤、吸附与离子交换，延伸到膜分离、电解、生物反应器与人工湿地。
• Redox processes include ozonation, chlorination, Fenton and photo-Fenton, electro-oxidation, photocatalysis and other advanced oxidation routes氧化还原过程包括臭氧氧化、氯化、芬顿与光芬顿、电氧化、光催化及其他高级氧化路线。
• Environmental surveillance assesses exposure, impact and health risk in water, soil, air, food and biota, and adopts a One Health framing that includes wastewater surveillance环境监测评估水、土、空气、食品与生物样本中的暴露、影响与健康风险，并采用包含污水监测的“同一健康”框架。
• Green and sustainable science and engineering addresses resource recovery, waste stream valorisation, the climate-water-energy-food nexus and carbon capture, utilisation and storage绿色与可持续科学工程方向涉及资源回收、废物流增值、气候与水能粮关联，以及碳捕集利用与封存。
• Contaminants of emerging concern, microplastics and nanoplastics, antimicrobial resistance genes, environmental pathogens and water data science are treated as cross-cutting themes新兴关注污染物、微塑料与纳米塑料、抗微生物耐药基因、环境病原体以及水数据科学被列为贯穿性主题。

History

• The first issue appeared in June 2013 as volume 1, and 2026 is volume 14, so the journal has kept a single volume per year第 1 卷第 1 期于 2013 年 6 月出版，2026 年为第 14 卷，期刊保持每年一卷。
• Instead of a single editor-in-chief, the journal is divided into four sections, each led by executive editors with a defined subject remit期刊不设单一主编，而是分为四个板块，各板块由执行编辑负责，职责范围明确。
• From 1 January 2027 the journal becomes fully open access, and an article processing charge applies to manuscripts submitted on or after 15 September 2026自 2027 年 1 月 1 日起期刊转为完全开放获取，2026 年 9 月 15 日及以后投稿的稿件在录用时收取文章处理费。
• Corresponding authors are normally limited to two, and a third requires justification in the cover letter showing distinct and substantive leadership通信作者一般不超过两位，增加第三位须在投稿信中说明各人具有不同且实质性的领导作用。
• Its impact factor rose from 5.909 in 2021 to 7.968 in 2022, stood at 7.2 in 2024 and reached 7.5 in 2025影响因子由 2021 年的 5.909 升至 2022 年的 7.968，2024 年为 7.2，2025 年达到 7.5。
• In the 2025 Journal Citation Reports it ranked 34th among 183 chemical engineering journals and 17th among 88 environmental engineering journals在 2025 年（Journal Citation Reports）中，该刊列 183 种化学工程期刊第 34 位，列 88 种环境工程期刊第 17 位。

• The physico-chemical-biological processes section is led by Teik-Thye Lim of Nanyang Technological University and Vitor Vilar of the University of Porto物理化学与生物过程板块由（Teik-Thye Lim）与（Vitor Vilar）负责，两人分别任职于（Nanyang Technological University）与（University of Porto）。
• Redox processes and environmental surveillance are led by Despo Fatta-Kassinos of the University of Cyprus and Yunho Lee of Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology氧化还原过程与环境监测板块由（Despo Fatta-Kassinos）与（Yunho Lee）负责，分别任职于（University of Cyprus）与（Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology）。
• Xiwang Zhang of the University of Queensland leads the green and sustainable science and engineering section on his own绿色与可持续科学工程板块由（Xiwang Zhang）单独负责，任职于（University of Queensland）。
• Giovanni Palmisano of Khalifa University and Kaimin Shih of the University of Hong Kong lead the section on novel materials for environmental, energy and chemical applications环境、能源与化学品应用新材料板块由（Giovanni Palmisano）与（Kaimin Shih）负责，分别任职于（Khalifa University）与（The University of Hong Kong）。
• The journal lists 79 editors and board members from 32 countries, with China contributing nine, ahead of Australia and Italy with six each期刊列出 79 位编辑与编委，分布于 32 个国家，其中中国 9 人，澳大利亚与意大利各 6 人。
