Jilin Agricultural University

Jilin Agricultural University, abbreviated JLAU and known in Chinese as Jilin Nongda, is a provincial public university in Changchun, Jilin, with agriculture and life sciences as its defining strengths.吉林农业大学（Jilin Agricultural University，简称 JLAU，中文简称「吉林农大」）是位于吉林省长春市的省属公办大学，以农业和生命科学为优势与特色。

Founded in 1948, it is co-built by the Jilin Provincial Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and is designated a Class A characteristic high-level applied research university of the province.学校创建于 1948 年，由吉林省人民政府与农业农村部合作共建，是吉林省特色高水平应用研究型大学（A 类）。

History

• The university traces its origin to the Agricultural Cadre School that the Northeast Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee established in Heilongjiang in 1948.学校的前身是中共中央东北局 1948 年在黑龙江创建的农业干部学校。
• In 1950 the school was upgraded to Heilongjiang Agricultural College, the first step in its passage from cadre training to degree education, and it remained a Heilongjiang institution until the 1958 merger.1950 年，学校升格为黑龙江农业专科学校，迈出从干部培训走向学历教育的第一步，并一直在黑龙江办学，直至 1958 年合并。
• It became Bei'an Agricultural College in 1956 and began four-year undergraduate programmes in the same year, with its campus in Bei'an, a county-level city in northern Heilongjiang.1956 年，学校升格为北安农学院，并于同年开始四年制本科教育，校址位于黑龙江北部的县级市北安。
• In 1958 Bei'an Agricultural College merged with Changchun Animal Husbandry and Veterinary University and the preparatory office of Changchun Agricultural College to form Changchun Agricultural College.1958 年，北安农学院、长春畜牧兽医大学与长春农学院筹备处合并，成立长春农学院。

• Zhou Enlai, then premier of the State Council, inscribed the name of Changchun Agricultural College in 1958, and the calligraphy became one of the university's best-known symbols.1958 年，时任国务院总理周恩来亲笔题写长春农学院校名，这幅题字后来成为学校最知名的标志之一。

• Li Yu earned his master's degree in microbiology at JLAU in 1981 and served as its president from 1992 to 2004.李玉 1981 年在校获微生物学硕士学位，并于 1992 年至 2004 年担任校长。
• Li Yu was elected to the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2009 and built a slime mould collection covering more than 400 species, about two thirds of the world's known total.李玉于 2009 年当选中国工程院院士，建成的黏菌种质资源库报道黏菌 400 余种，约占世界已知种的三分之二。
