Jiangxi Normal University

Jiangxi Normal University (JXNU) is a provincial public normal university in Nanchang, Jiangxi, China, jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the Jiangxi Provincial People's Government.江西师范大学（JXNU）是中国江西省南昌市的省属公办师范大学，由教育部与江西省人民政府共建。

It descends from National Chung Cheng University, founded in Taihe in June 1940 with the botanist Hu Xiansu as first president, and received its present name in November 1983.学校前身为1940年6月在泰和创办的国立中正大学，首任校长为植物学家胡先骕，1983年11月定名江西师范大学。

Its Yaohu and Qingshanhu campuses cover more than 3,000 mu and enrol about 26,400 undergraduates and 9,600 postgraduate students, most of them training to become teachers.学校瑶湖、青山湖两个校区占地3000余亩，在校本科生约26400人、研究生约9600人，其中多数以从教为职业方向。

History

• The founders took inspiration from the White Deer Grotto Academy at Mount Lu in Jiujiang, the Song dynasty seat of learning where Zhu Xi once taught.学校的创办理念取法于九江庐山的白鹿洞书院，那是朱熹曾讲学的宋代著名学府。
• National Chung Cheng University opened in June 1940 in Taihe, then the wartime capital of Jiangxi, with colleges of arts, law, science, engineering and agriculture.1940年6月，国立中正大学在战时江西省会泰和成立，设文、法、理、工、农五个学院。
• Hu Xiansu, a pioneer of Chinese plant taxonomy and a member of the Academia Sinica, led the university as president from 1940 to 1944 and recruited its first professors.胡先骕是中国植物分类学的开拓者、中央研究院院士，1940年至1944年出任校长并延聘了学校首批教授。
• The historian Yao Mingda joined the department of literature and history in 1940 at Hu's invitation and later became a research professor in the research institute.历史学家姚名达1940年应胡先骕之聘任教于文史系，后改任研究部研究教授。
• During the Zhejiang-Jiangxi campaign of 1942 Yao led the university's battlefield service corps to the front and was killed with his student Wu Changda at Shikou village in Xin'gan County.1942年浙赣会战期间，姚名达率国立中正大学战地服务团奔赴前线，在新淦县石口村与学生吴昌达一同遇难。
• In September 1949 the university was renamed National Nanchang University, with colleges of politics, literature and arts, science, engineering and agriculture and 16 departments.1949年9月，学校更名为国立南昌大学，设政治学院、文学艺术学院、理学院、工学院、农学院，共16个系。
• The national reorganisation of 1953 transferred its departments to Sun Yat-sen University, Wuhan University, Huazhong Institute of Technology and South China Normal College, among others.1953年全国院系调整中，原南昌大学各院系分别调往中山大学、武汉大学、华中工学院、华南师范学院等校。
• On the foundation of the former Nanchang University's teacher-training division, Jiangxi Teachers College was created in 1953 with seven specialities in Chinese, history, art, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology.1953年，以原南昌大学师范部为基础成立江西师范学院，设中语、历史、艺术、数学、物理、化学、生物7个专修科。
• Those specialities were gradually converted into departments and new ones were added as the college expanded through the 1950s and early 1960s.此后这些专修科相继改为系，学院在20世纪50年代至60年代初陆续增设新的系科。
• A branch campus was opened in Jing'an County in September 1965 as the college extended its teacher training into the surrounding countryside.1965年9月，学院在靖安县设立分院，把师范教育延伸到周边乡村。
• In January 1969 the college was abolished and Jinggangshan University was formed at Nashan in Jinggangshan from it, Jiangxi Education College and three departments of Jiangxi University.1969年1月，江西师范学院被撤销，以师院为主体，加上江西教育学院与江西大学政教、中文、生物三系，在井冈山拿山成立井冈山大学。
• Jinggangshan University moved back to Nanchang in September 1972 and resumed the name Jiangxi Teachers College, reopening its departments to new students.1972年9月，井冈山大学迁回南昌，恢复江西师范学院校名，各系重新招生。

• Jiangxi Financial Staff University, also known as the Jiangxi Banking School, was merged into the university on 31 March 2003, adding finance and management programmes.2003年3月31日，江西金融职工大学（江西银行学校）成建制并入江西师范大学，增设财政金融与管理类专业。
• The Taiwan president Luo Renquan visited in 2004 and signed an exchange agreement that September, the first of several academic accords between the two Chung Cheng institutions.2004年，台湾中正大学校长罗仁权来访，同年9月两校签署交流合作协议，此后又两度续签学术交流协议。

Campus
