Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (JUST) is a provincial public university in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, China, administered by the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government and co-built with the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence and China State Shipbuilding Corporation.江苏科技大学（JUST）是位于中国江苏省镇江市的省属公办高校，由江苏省人民政府与国家国防科技工业局、中国船舶集团有限公司共建。

It traces its origin to the Shanghai Private Dagong Vocational School founded in 1933 and to the Shanghai Shipbuilding Industrial School set up in 1953 as the first shipbuilding secondary school of New China, and it moved from Shanghai to Zhenjiang in 1970.学校源头可追溯至1933年创办的上海私立大公职业学校，以及1953年组建的新中国第一所造船中等专业学校上海船舶工业学校，1970年由上海迁至镇江。

Known as the cradle of Chinese shipbuilding engineers, the university builds its identity on ships, the sea and sericulture, and it runs the Changshan, Mengxi and Zhangjiagang campuses across 3,979 mu of land.学校享有“中国造船工程师摇篮”之誉，以船舶、海洋、蚕桑为三大办学特色，设有长山、梦溪与张家港三个校区，校园总占地3979亩。

History

• In March 1933 Lin Meiyan, Wu Kaixian, Xu Heng and Zhang Tong founded the Shanghai Private Dagong Vocational School at Qiaojiabang in Shanghai with four departments for machinery, civil engineering, commerce and applied chemistry.1933年3月，林美衍、吴开先、许恒、张桐等人在上海乔家浜创办上海私立大公职业学校，设机械、土木、商业与应用化学四科。
• In the spring of 1934, with backing from Wu Tiecheng, Wu Xingya, Du Yuesheng and Wu Yunchu, the school built premises and training workshops on Jumen Road in the old Nanshi district.1934年春季，学校在吴铁城、吴醒亚、杜月笙、吴蕴初等人赞助下，于南市局门路兴建校舍与实习工厂。
• When the Battle of Shanghai broke out in August 1937, the school moved its books, instruments and machines into the French concession at 1968 Avenue Joffre and sent branches to Chongqing and to Tiantai in Zhejiang.1937年八一三淞沪抗战爆发后，学校将图书、仪器与工厂机器迁入法租界霞飞路1968号，并分迁重庆与浙江天台办学。
• In February 1939 the Shanghai section, short of space, leased the fourth floor of the Qingyun Building at 131 Hankou Road, where enrolment grew to about 500 students.1939年2月，留沪部分因校舍不敷使用，改租汉口路131号庆云大楼办学，学生人数增至约500人。
• After the war the school was restored in November 1945 at a four-storey building at 400 Emei Road in Hongkou, offering mechanical, fisheries and commercial programmes.抗战胜利后，学校于1945年11月在虹口区峨嵋路400号一栋四层大楼复校，设机械、水产与商业三个科类。
• In 1952 the Shipbuilding Industry Bureau of the First Ministry of Machine Building began preparing the Shanghai Shipbuilding Industrial School, the first shipbuilding secondary school founded by New China.1952年，第一机械工业部船舶工业局开始筹建上海船舶工业学校，这是新中国创办的第一所造船中等专业学校。
• In November 1952 the shipbuilding section of the Fujian Advanced Aeronautical and Mechanical Merchant Marine School, descended from the 1866 Fujian Arsenal School, and the shipbuilding section of the Shanghai Advanced Mechanical Vocational School, descended from the 1907 German Medical School, joined the preparation.1952年11月，源自1866年福建船政学堂的福建高级航空机械商船职业学校造船科，以及源自1907年德文医学堂的上海高级机械职业学校造船科，先后加入筹建。

• On 28 August 1953 the First Ministry of Machine Building approved the school, which opened on 15 September at the Shanghai Liberation Theatre with Yu Ximai as its first president and a campus of more than 200 mu in Pudong.1953年8月28日，第一机械工业部批准建校，学校于9月15日在上海解放剧场举行开学典礼，首任校长为余西迈，浦东校址占地两百余亩。

• In 1970 the school moved to Zhenjiang and became the Zhenjiang Shipbuilding Industrial School, with its name inscribed by the calligrapher Shu Tong.1970年学校迁至镇江，更名为镇江船舶工业学校，校名由书法家舒同题写。
• In December 1978 the State Council approved its upgrade to Zhenjiang Shipbuilding College, which began awarding bachelor's degrees and enrolling students nationwide.1978年12月，国务院批准学校升格为镇江船舶学院，开始举办本科教育并面向全国招生。

• The Changshan campus at 666 Changhui Road in Dantu District is the main campus, covers 2,650 mu and 664,600 square metres of floor space, and was fully occupied in 2020.长山校区位于丹徒区长晖路666号，是学校主校区，占地2650亩，校舍建筑面积66.46万平方米，2020年全面启用。

• Lin Meiyan was one of the four founders of the Shanghai Private Dagong Vocational School in 1933 and served as its principal.林美衍是1933年上海私立大公职业学校的四位创办人之一，并曾任校长。
• Xu Heng helped found the school and, as principal, filed the 1945 report that secured its restoration in Shanghai after the war.许恒参与创办该校，并于1945年以校长身份呈报复校申请，使学校在战后得以在上海复校。
