Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), formerly the Open University of Hong Kong, is a public self-financing university in Ho Man Tin, Kowloon, the first institution designated a University of Applied Sciences by the Hong Kong government, and it is placed in the 781-790 band of the 2027 QS World University Rankings.香港都会大学（HKMU）前身为香港公开大学，是位于九龙何文田的公立自资大学，也是香港政府认定的首所「应用科学大学」，在 2027 年 QS 世界大学排名中处于 781-790 区间。

It opened in May 1989 as the Open Learning Institute of Hong Kong, became the Open University of Hong Kong in 1997 as the city's seventh statutory university, began full-time degrees in 2001, and was renamed Hong Kong Metropolitan University on 1 September 2021.该校 1989 年 5 月以香港公开进修学院之名开办，1997 年正名为香港公开大学、成为香港第七所法定大学，2001 年起开办全日制学位，2021 年 9 月 1 日正式更名香港都会大学。

History

• In the early 1980s the Hong Kong government studied the feasibility of open education, and Governor David Wilson committed to establishing an open learning institution in his October 1987 policy address.1980 年代初，香港政府研究提供公开教育的可行性；总督卫奕信在 1987 年 10 月的施政报告中落实筹办公开进修学院。
