Hong Kong Baptist University, abbreviated HKBU, is a publicly funded research university in Kowloon Tong, Kowloon, Hong Kong, and is one of the eight institutions supported by the University Grants Committee香港浸会大学（缩写 HKBU，简称浸大）是位于香港九龙九龙塘的公立研究型大学，也是香港大学教育资助委员会资助的八所院校之一

History

• The university was founded as the Hong Kong Baptist College, opened on 11 September 1956 on the premises of the Baptist-affiliated Pui Ching Middle School, with an entrance examination held on 9 July 1956 and an initial enrolment of 152 students大学前身香港浸会书院于 1956 年 9 月 11 日在浸信会背景的培正中学开学，同年 7 月 9 日举行入学试，初创时仅有 152 名学生。

• It was established by the Baptist Convention of Hong Kong with support from American Baptists, who supplied operating and construction funds and personnel in the early years, and its first president was Lam Chi-fung书院由香港浸信联会创办，并获美国浸信会支持，后者在创校初期提供了办学与建设经费及人员，首任校长为林子丰。

• The Hong Kong Baptist College Bill was passed by the Legislative Council on 10 August 1983, moving the college from the Post Secondary Colleges Ordinance and the Education Department to funding by the University and Polytechnic Grants Committee1983 年 8 月 10 日，立法局通过《香港浸会学院条例》，学院由《专上学院条例》及教育署转归大学及理工教育资助委员会资助。

• From 1986 the college began offering degree programmes, becoming the fourth institution in Hong Kong to do so, and it became a publicly funded tertiary institution学院自 1986 年起开办学位课程，成为香港第四所提供学位课程的院校，并成为政府资助的大专院校。

• On 16 November 1994 the Legislative Council passed the Hong Kong Baptist College (Amendment) Bill, transforming the college into Hong Kong Baptist University1994 年 11 月 16 日，立法局通过《香港浸会学院（修订）条例》，学院正式升格为香港浸会大学。

• After gaining university status the institution adopted a new logo designed by Kan and Lau Design Consultants and based on book and water motifs, and the Shaw campus was completed in 1995升格为大学后，浸大采用由靳与刘设计顾问公司设计的新标志，以书本与水为意象；邵逸夫校园亦于 1995 年落成。

• The Baptist University Road Campus was completed in 1998 on the site of the former Kowloon Tong Model Village, and student residences providing close to 1,800 places opened there in March 2002浸会大学道校园于 1998 年在九龙塘模范村旧址落成，设近 1,800 个宿位的学生宿舍亦于 2002 年 3 月在此启用。

• In 2004 Hong Kong Baptist University, Peking University, Beijing Normal University and the National University of Singapore jointly established the Beijing-Hong Kong-Singapore Joint Centre for Nonlinear and Complex Systems2004 年，香港浸会大学与北京大学、北京师范大学及新加坡国立大学共同设立「北京－香港－新加坡非线性与复杂系统联合研究中心」。

• In 2005 the university and Beijing Normal University established the United International College in Zhuhai, Guangdong, the first higher education institution founded through cooperation between a mainland university and a Hong Kong university2005 年，浸大与北京师范大学在广东珠海合作创办联合国际学院，这是中国内地与香港高等教育界首次以合作办学模式联合创办的高校。

• The Shek Mun Campus and the Kai Tak Campus both opened in 2006, the latter restored from the former Royal Air Force officers' quarters and recognised with an Honourable Mention of the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award in 2009石门校园与启德校园均于 2006 年启用，后者由前皇家空军军官宿舍修复而成，并于 2009 年获联合国教科文组织亚太区文物古迹保护奖荣誉奖。

• In 2018 a dispute over the compulsory Putonghua graduation requirement led to students occupying the Language Centre in January, and in June the Senate kept the requirement while allowing students to exclude the grade from the cumulative GPA2018 年，围绕普通话毕业要求的争议导致学生在 1 月占领语文中心；同年 6 月教务议会维持该要求，但准许学生将普通话成绩排除在总平均积点之外。

• In 2021 the university was approved to establish and operate the first Chinese medicine hospital in Hong Kong2021 年，浸大获批成立并运营香港首家中医院。

• The School of Creative Arts was established on 1 July 2022 to train a new generation of creative talent, and the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social Sciences were merged into the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences on 1 July 2024创意艺术学院于 2022 年 7 月 1 日成立，以培养新一代创意人才；文学院与社会科学院则于 2024 年 7 月 1 日合并为「文学及社会科学院」。

• In March 2025 the United International College in Zhuhai was renamed Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University, and from the 2025-26 intake the compulsory Putonghua graduation requirement was abolished2025 年 3 月，珠海的联合国际学院更名为「北师香港浸会大学」；自 2025 至 2026 学年入学起，普通话毕业要求被取消。

• The university is organised into the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the School of Business, the School of Chinese Medicine, the School of Communication, the School of Creative Arts, the Faculty of Science and the School of Continuing Education, together with a Graduate School大学设有文学及社会科学院、工商管理学院、中医药学院、传理学院、创意艺术学院、理学院与持续教育学院，另设研究院。

• Hong Kong Baptist University occupies five campuses in Kowloon and Sha Tin, namely the Ho Sin Hang Campus, the Shaw Campus, the Baptist University Road Campus, the Kai Tak Campus and the Shek Mun Campus香港浸会大学在九龙与沙田共设五个校园，分别是善衡校园、逸夫校园、浸会大学道校园、启德校园与石门校园。

• The Ho Sin Hang Campus on Waterloo Road is named after the businessman Ho Sin Hang, was designed by the architect Eric Cumine and completed in 1966, with a partial rebuilding in 1990 designed by the architect Ho Tao位于窝打老道的善衡校园以商人何善衡命名，由建筑师甘洺设计、1966 年落成，并于 1990 年由建筑师何弢设计进行局部重建。

• The four residence halls are the Chen-Ning Yang Hall, the Yuan-Pei Cai Hall, the Shu-Ren Zhou Hall and the Ching-Ling Soong Hall, commemorating the scientist Yang Chen Ning, the educator Cai Yuanpei, the writer Zhou Shuren and the politician Song Qingling四座舍堂分别是杨振宁堂、蔡元培堂、周树人堂与宋庆龄堂，分别纪念科学家杨振宁、教育家蔡元培、文学家周树人（鲁迅）与政治家宋庆龄。

• The Dr Ng Tor Tai International House, opened in 1997, is a three-star guest house mainly for postgraduate students, next to the Lam Woo International Conference Centre, which opened in July 1996吴多泰博士国际中心于 1997 年成立，是一座三星级宾馆，主要供研究生使用，毗邻 1996 年 7 月启用的林护国际会议中心。

• The university motto is Faith and Perseverance, rendered in Chinese as duk seun lik haang, and it reflects the institution's Christian tradition of whole-person education浸大的校训是「笃信力行」，体现其基督教全人教育的传统。

• The university was founded by the Baptist Convention of Hong Kong in 1956 with the mission of providing whole-person Christian education to young people in Hong Kong, and the chaplaincy office has long served the university community浸大由香港浸信联会于 1956 年创办，使命是为香港青年提供基督教全人教育，校牧处自创校以来一直牧养大学社群。

• The Students' Union, which represented all full-time undergraduates and was independent of the university, was suspended indefinitely by the university on 4 December 2025代表全体全日制本科生、独立于大学的浸大学生会，于 2025 年 12 月 4 日被校方宣布无限期暂停运作。
