Heritage Science
Heritage Science is a fully open-access journal published by Springer Nature for the scientific study of cultural and natural heritage, founded in 2013 and relaunched on 1 January 2025 as npj Heritage Science within the Nature Portfolio npj series, carrying a 2025 Journal Impact Factor of 5.2.《遗产科学》(Heritage Science)是由(Springer Nature)出版的全开放获取期刊,专注以科学方法研究文化与自然遗产,2013 年创刊,2025 年 1 月 1 日改版为(npj Heritage Science)并纳入(Nature Portfolio)的(npj)系列,2025 年期刊影响因子为 5.2。
Scope
- The journal considers original research on heritage grounded primarily in physical, chemical and biological measurement or computation, and expects work of international interest rather than purely local case studies.
- Inorganic heritage materials such as ceramics, metals and glass, and organic materials including paper, papyrus, parchment, books, inks, wood, textiles and physical archives.
- Computing for digital representation, covering three-dimensional recording, building information modelling for heritage, lidar survey and virtual restoration.
- Computing for modelling and communication, including artificial intelligence, expert systems, large language models, neural networks, and virtual or augmented reality.
- Digital humanities, meaning critical analysis of digitised collections, built and intangible heritage and computational textual analysis, together with epigraphy studied through imaging and computation.
- Conservation science, archaeological science and fine arts, with environmental effects on heritage such as pollution, climate change, storage conditions and biodeterioration.
- Geography in heritage such as GIS and historical cartography, built heritage and structural stability, natural environmental heritage, and social science, economics and education in heritage where computational models are used.
History
- SpringerOpen launched the journal in 2013 as Heritage Science, with volume 1 opening in April 2013 and an editorial by Richard Brereton of the University of Bristol.(SpringerOpen)于 2013 年以(Heritage Science)之名创刊,第 1 卷自 2013 年 4 月起出版,创刊社论出自布里斯托大学的(Richard Brereton)。[1]
- Its first remit was analytical, covering manufacturing and provenance studies, prediction of degradation, non-invasive imaging and assessment of treatment materials.
- Twelve volumes appeared between 2013 and 2024 as an online-only journal publishing article by article rather than in fixed issues.2013
- On 1 January 2025 the title became npj Heritage Science, moved to the nature.com platform with the new ISSN 3059-3220, and volume numbering continued with volume 13.2025 年 1 月 1 日改名为(npj Heritage Science),迁移至(nature.com)平台并启用新刊号 3059-3220,卷号顺延至第 13 卷。[2]
- The relaunch widened the scope towards digital humanities, artificial intelligence, geography, epigraphy and heritage economics, while Scopus kept a continuous CiteScore under the new name and Web of Science carried the 2025 Impact Factor with the old title.
- The 2025 Journal Impact Factor is 5.2, after 3.9 in 2024, 2.843 in 2022 and 2.517 in 2021, ranking 5 of 43 in spectroscopy and 27 of 110 in analytical chemistry.2025 年期刊影响因子为 5.2,2024 年为 3.9,2022 年为 2.843,2021 年为 2.517;在光谱学类别列 5/43,在分析化学类别列 27/110。
