Hebei University

Hebei University is a provincial public university in Baoding, Hebei, China, and one of the institutions in the national ministry-province co-construction scheme launched in 2018.河北大学是位于中国河北保定的一所省属公立大学，也是2018年启动的国家「部省合建」高校之一

It traces its origin to the Institut des Hautes Études et Commerciales des Tientsin, founded by French Jesuits in Tianjin in 1921, and it took its present name in the summer of 1960 after four decades of renaming.学校的前身是1921年法国耶稣会神父在天津创办的天津工商大学，此后四十年间数度更名，1960年夏定名为河北大学

History

• In 1921 French Jesuits founded the Institut des Hautes Études et Commerciales des Tientsin in the port city of Tianjin, and Hebei University counts that foundation rather than its 1960 renaming as the start of its history. Tianjin was then a treaty port whose foreign concessions supported a growing network of missionary schools.1921年，法国耶稣会神父在通商口岸天津创办天津工商大学，河北大学以这次创办而非1960年的更名作为校史起点，当时的天津租界内办有不少教会学校。

• In August 1952 the national readjustment dissolved Tsin Ku University, sending its three engineering departments into Tianjin University, formed with the former Beiyang University, and its three finance departments into Nankai University. • In 1958 Tianjin became a provincial city of Hebei and the provincial capital moved there from Baoding, and in June the normal college was expanded into Tianjin Normal University.
