Harbin Engineering University (HEU) is a public research university in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China, focused on shipbuilding, marine technology and nuclear applications, and affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.哈尔滨工程大学（简称哈工程）是中国黑龙江省哈尔滨市的一所公立研究型大学，以船舶、海洋技术与核能应用为特色，现隶属于工业和信息化部。

It descends from the PLA Military Engineering Institute founded in 1953, and by 2026 it enrolled more than 35,600 students, including about 16,900 undergraduates, 13,600 master's students and 4,400 doctoral candidates.该校源自 1953 年创办的中国人民解放军军事工程学院；截至 2026 年，在校学生超过 35,600 人，其中本科生约 16,900 人、硕士生约 13,600 人、博士生约 4,400 人。

History

• HEU traces its origin to the PLA Military Engineering Institute, established in Harbin on 1 September 1953 by the Central Military Commission to support China's early defence development.该校的前身是中国人民解放军军事工程学院，1953 年 9 月 1 日由中央军委在哈尔滨创建，以支撑新中国早期的国防建设。
• The institute's first president and political commissar was Senior General Chen Geng, and Mao Zedong issued a written charge for its founding.学院首任院长兼政委是陈赓大将，毛泽东主席为学院成立颁发了《训词》。
• It was organised into five departments for the air force, artillery, navy, armoured forces and engineering corps, modelled on Soviet military academies.学院按军兵种设立空军工程系、炮兵工程系、海军工程系、装甲兵工程系与工程兵工程系五个系，办学模式仿照苏联军事院校。
