Hanyang University

Hanyang University is a private research university in Seoul, South Korea, with a second campus in Ansan, and takes its name from the Joseon-era name of the capital.汉阳大学（한양대학교，HanYang University，缩写 HYU）是一所位于韩国首尔的私立研究型大学，另在安山市设有校区，校名取自首尔在朝鲜王朝时期的旧称“汉阳”。

Founded in 1939 as the Dong-A Engineering Institute, it was the first private institution in Korea to teach engineering and architecture, and it places 155th in the 2027 QS World University Rankings with about 25,000 undergraduates.学校于 1939 年以东亚工科学院之名创办，是韩国第一所教授工程与建筑学的私立院校，在 2027 年 QS 世界大学排名中位列第 155，在校本科生约 2.5 万人。

History

• Kim Lyun-joon founded the Dong-A Engineering Institute on 1 July 1939, during the Japanese occupation of Korea, in Jongno District, Seoul, with 630 students and 35 teachers.1939 年 7 月 1 日，金连俊在日据时期的韩国首尔钟路区创办东亚工科学院，当时有学生 630 人、教师 35 人。

• The institute produced its first graduates in 1941 and moved the same year to new premises, teaching engineering and technology to 100 students who had completed secondary school.学院于 1941 年送出首届毕业生，并在同年迁址，面向 100 名中学毕业生开展工程与技术教育。

Campus

• The Seoul campus occupies some 409,000 square metres in Haengdang-dong, Seongdong District, a hilly site reached by Hanyang University station on subway Line 2.首尔校区位于城东区杏堂洞，占地约 40.9 万平方米，地势起伏，地铁 2 号线汉阳大学站可达。

Notable people

• Kim Lyun-joon, the founder, served as chairman and then as the first president from 1939 until 1973, and composed music alongside his work as an educator.创办人金连俊自 1939 年起任理事长并出任首任校长直至 1973 年，他在教育之外亦从事音乐创作。

• Lee Hae-nam succeeded Kim Lyun-joon as president in 1973, leading the university through its expansion into a comprehensive institution.李海南于 1973 年接替金连俊出任校长，带领学校向综合性大学扩展。
