Hainan University

Hainan University is a provincial public university on Haidian Island in Haikou, the capital of Hainan Province, and the only university in the province carrying both Project 211 status and a place in the Double First-Class Construction.海南大学是位于海南省会海口海甸岛的省属公立大学，也是海南省唯一同时拥有「211 工程」身份与「双一流」建设资格的高校。

It is co-funded by the Hainan Provincial People's Government, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, and since 2018 it has been a ministry-province co-built university listed among the institutions directly administered by the Ministry of Education.学校由海南省人民政府、教育部和财政部共建，2018 年起成为「部省合建」高校，纳入教育部直属高校排序。

The present university was formed in August 2007 by merging the original Hainan University, founded in 1983, with the South China University of Tropical Agriculture, a rubber and tropical agriculture institution founded in 1958.今日的海南大学由 1983 年创办的原海南大学与 1958 年设立的以橡胶和热带农业为特色的华南热带农业大学于 2007 年 8 月合并组建。

History

• In 1958 the central government approved the creation of the South China Institute of Tropical Crops in Danzhou, acting on an instruction from Premier Zhou Enlai to break the Western embargo on natural rubber.1958 年，中央政府批准在儋州创办华南热带作物学院，其背景是周恩来总理指示打破西方对中国天然橡胶的禁运。
