Hainan Medical University

Hainan Medical University (HMU) is a provincial public medical university in Haikou, Hainan, China, funded by the Hainan Provincial People's Government and described as the only public medical school in the Hainan Free Trade Port.海南医科大学（HMU）是中国海南省海口市的一所省属公立医科大学，由海南省人民政府举办并提供经费，是海南自由贸易港内唯一一所公办医学院校。

Its origins lie in a vocational medical school founded in 1947 and a private university medical college founded in 1948, and it adopted its present name in 2024 after more than three decades as Hainan Medical College.学校前身是1947年创办的一所医事职业学校与1948年创办的一所私立大学医学院，在作为海南医学院办学三十余年后，于2024年更名为现名。

It has 20 secondary colleges, 36 undergraduate programmes and three campuses in Haikou, with 15,165 full-time students and 11,816 faculty and medical staff recorded in January 2025.学校设有20个二级学院，开设36个本科专业，在海口拥有三个校区，截至2025年1月有全日制在校生15165人、教职医护员工11816人。

History

• The Haiqiang Medical Vocational School, the older of the two predecessors, was founded in 1947 by Lin Xiaohai, who served as its first president.两个前身中较早的海强医事技术学校由林筱海于1947年创办，他担任首任校长。
• In autumn 1948 the Medical College of the private Hainan University was created, with Tseven Soong as the first chairman of its board.1948年秋，私立海南大学医学院成立，宋子文（Tseven Soong）出任首任董事长。
