Fujian Medical University

Fujian Medical University is a provincial medical university in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province in south-eastern China, combining teaching, research, clinical service and disease prevention.福建医科大学是位于福建省省会福州的一所省属医科大学，集教学、科研、医疗与预防于一体。

Its predecessor, the Fujian Provincial Medical Specialised School, was founded in 1937, became Fujian Medical College in 1949 and adopted its present name in April 1996.学校前身是 1937 年创办的福建省立医学专科学校，1949 年改称福建医学院，1996 年 4 月改为现名。

History

• The school opened in 1937 as the Fujian Provincial Medical Specialised School, with the physiologist Hou Zonglian as its first president and a provincial hospital attached from the outset.学校 1937 年以福建省立医学专科学校的名义创办，生理学家侯宗濂出任首任校长，创办时即附设省立医院。
• In 1939, as Japanese forces approached Fuzhou, the school moved inland to the Confucian temple in Shaxian, a mountain town in northern Fujian, and was renamed the Fujian Provincial Medical College.1939 年福州即将沦陷，学校内迁闽北山城沙县的圣庙继续办学，并更名为福建省立医学院。
• After the war ended in 1945 the college returned to its original site on Jixiang Hill in Fuzhou and resumed teaching in the city where it had been founded.1945 年抗战结束，学校迁回福州吉祥山原址，在创办地恢复办学。

• Wu Mengchao, 1922 to 2021, was a hepatobiliary surgeon and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences who trained under the surgeon Qiu Fazu and is known as the father of Chinese hepatobiliary surgery.吴孟超是肝胆外科专家、中国科学院院士，师从外科学家裘法祖，被誉为「中国肝胆外科之父」。
