Fu Jen Catholic University

Fu Jen Catholic University, commonly shortened to FJU or Fu Jen, is a private Catholic university in the Xinzhuang District of New Taipei City, Taiwan, China, and the oldest Catholic and Jesuit-affiliated institution of higher education in the Chinese-speaking world.

It was founded in Beijing in 1925 at the request of Pope Pius XI, closed on the mainland in 1952, and re-established in Taiwan in 1961 at the request of Pope John XXIII, so the institution carries two foundation dates and two distinct eras.

It now comprises twelve colleges and schools with more than 25,000 students, sits under the Congregation for Catholic Education of the Holy See, and in the QS World University Rankings 2027 occupies the 1201-1400 band, with 17,569 works and 590,390 citations recorded in OpenAlex.
