Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience
Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience is a multidisciplinary open-access journal published by Frontiers Media in Lausanne, Switzerland, since 2009, devoted to the mechanistic biology of central nervous system ageing and age-related neurological disease, with a 2025 Journal Impact Factor of 5.2 and a CiteScore of 10.0.《衰老神经科学前沿》(Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience)是由(Frontiers Media)自 2009 年起在瑞士洛桑出版的开放获取多学科期刊,专注中枢神经系统衰老与年龄相关神经疾病的机制研究,2025 年期刊影响因子为 5.2,CiteScore 为 10.0。
Scope
- Alzheimer's disease and related dementias form the journal's largest clinical strand, spanning biomarkers, neuroimaging, proteinopathy and mechanistically framed trial work.
- Cellular and molecular mechanisms of brain ageing are a second pillar, from mitochondrial and proteostatic decline to glial senescence and cerebrovascular ageing.
- Neurocognitive ageing and behaviour are studied through cognitive neuroscience, neuropsychology and lifespan work on memory, attention and decision making.
- Neuroinflammation and neuropathy have a dedicated section covering immune signalling, blood-brain barrier failure, prion-like propagation and peripheral nerve ageing.
- Parkinson's disease and ageing-related movement disorders are treated from synuclein biology and genetics through to deep brain stimulation and rehabilitation.
- Ageing may be approached through genetic, biophysical, genomic, proteomic, cellular, molecular, biochemical, endocrinal, immunological, physiological, pharmacological or psychological and behavioural lenses, and mechanistic neuroimaging and clinical studies are equally welcome.
- Purely clinical, theoretical or epidemiological papers, purely statistical studies, and work lacking a mechanistic link to age-related processes fall outside the scope, while computational analyses of public data must carry appropriate validation.
History
- The journal opened in 2009 as one of the early specialty titles of the Frontiers platform, publishing article by article rather than in paginated issues, and its first volume carried the DOI stem 10.3389/neuro.24.
- It appeared online only from the outset, with no print edition, and has kept continuous publication, grouping papers by annual volume instead of monthly issues.
- All content appears under CC BY 4.0 with copyright retained by authors, and the article processing charge is 3,150 Swiss francs for A-type articles and 2,500 for B-type articles, with waivers for authors in low-income countries.
- The title is indexed in PubMed Central, Scopus and the Science Citation Index Expanded, and is listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals, which records open access publication from 2009.
- The 2025 Journal Impact Factor is 5.2, after 4.5 in 2024, 5.702 in 2022 and 5.75 in 2021, with a CiteScore of 10.0 and more than 231,000 citations counted by the publisher, across roughly 8,500 published articles.2025 年期刊影响因子为 5.2,2024 年为 4.5,2022 年为 5.702,2021 年为 5.75;CiteScore 为 10.0,出版方统计的引用总数超过 231,000 次,已发表论文约 8,500 篇。
- In the 2025 Journal Citation Reports it sits in the first quartile of both Neurosciences, at 65 of 330, and Geriatrics and Gerontology, at 15 of 72.
