European Neuropsychopharmacology
European Neuropsychopharmacology (Eur. Neuropsychopharmacol.) is published by Elsevier on behalf of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology and is the college's official journal. Founded in November 1990, it concentrates on the neurobiology of psychiatric disorders and on psychopharmacology, appears monthly, and had a 2025 impact factor of 8.1.《欧洲神经精神药理学》(European Neuropsychopharmacology'''',缩写 Eur. Neuropsychopharmacol.'')
Scope
The journal's editorial stance is that brain science has to connect with clinical treatment: in the college's own statement of mission, it is to translate understanding of brain function and human behaviour into better treatment and greater public health impact.
- Clinical and basic neuropsychopharmacology: mechanisms of drug action and receptor pharmacology, clinical trials of psychotropic drugs, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, and new targets and drug development.
- Neurobiology of psychiatric disorders: mechanisms of mood and psychotic disorders, anxiety and stress-related disorders, addiction and reward circuitry, and sleep and circadian rhythms.
- Psychopharmacology and clinical trials: randomised controlled trials and real-world studies, drug comparisons and sequencing, prescribing strategies in treatment-resistant cases, and safety and tolerability.
- Neuroimaging and genetics: structural and functional imaging, molecular imaging and receptor visualisation, psychiatric genetics and genomics, and imaging genetics.
- Cognition and functional outcome: cognitive function and neuropsychological assessment, social cognition, functional recovery and rehabilitation, and assessment of quality of life.
- Translation and prevention: early detection and intervention, biomarkers and stratified treatment, prevention strategies, and health services and public health research.
The journal is hybrid, subscription-based with optional gold open access, and the article processing charge is 3,450 US dollars. it also lists thirty-three days to acceptance, a figure shorter than the forty-five days to a decision after review. The two are inconsistent in basis and both are recorded here without choosing between them.[1]
History
- Founding (1990): volume 1, issue 1 appeared in November 1990, and the founding editors were Jan M. van Ree of Utrecht University and Stuart A. Montgomery of London, who jointly signed the editorial in the first issue. The rationale was to carry out the college's mission and to close the gap between basic neuroscience and clinical translation. [2]
- Title and publisher: the journal has used its present name since founding, with no predecessor title and no renaming. It has been published by Elsevier since 1990 with no change of publisher, and now appears monthly, twelve issues a year. [3]
- Sister title (2024): in 2024 to 2025 the college added a fully open access sister journal, Neuroscience Applied, edited by the former editor Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg, while this journal retained its position as the college's traditional subscription title.
- Metrics and indexing: the impact factor is 8.1 and the CiteScore 13.2. The college's own page records the impact factor rising to 8.100 from 6.700. The journal is indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded, Scopus and MEDLINE. [1]
Editors
The editor is appointed by the college and there were two joint editors at founding. The present editor comes from Barcelona and is listed as editor of the journal in successive college executive committee lists from 2019 to 2025. The college and the publisher publish no list of intermediate editors. [4]
- Present editor-in-chief: Eduard Vieta works in the bipolar and depressive disorders unit of the Institute of Neuroscience at the University of Barcelona, Hospital Clínic and IDIBAPS. The year of appointment is not published现任主编: (Eduard Vieta)供职于巴塞罗那大学神经科学研究所(Hospital Clínic / IDIBAPS)双相与抑郁障碍单元;就任年份官网未公布,据该学院年报推定自 2020 年前后起。 on the basis of the college's annual reports it is taken to be around 2020.
- Founding and past editors: the founding joint editors were Jan M. van Ree and Stuart A. Montgomery, in post from 1990. Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg of Heidelberg University was still listed as editor in the college's 2019 annual report, serving to about 2020 before moving to the new journal. The remaining intermediate editors are not published.
