Endocrine-Related Cancer
Endocrine-Related Cancer is the journal of the Society for Endocrinology, published by the society's own publishing arm BioScientifica and issued monthly. It concentrates on endocrine tumours and hormone-dependent cancers, spanning basic mechanism to clinical translation, and is among the principal dedicated titles in endocrine oncology.《内分泌相关癌症》(Endocrine-Related Cancer)是英国内分泌学会(Society for Endocrinology)的机关刊,由学会旗下的 BioScientifica 出版,月刊发行。
Scope
Endocrine-Related Cancer takes cancers of the endocrine system as its object, declining general oncology contributions in favour of a scope organised by anatomical site and hormone-dependent tissue. Its principal subject areas include:Endocrine-Related Cancer
- Tumours of endocrine glands: cancers of the adrenal, breast, thyroid and parathyroid glands, the pituitary, the testis and the ovary, together with multiple endocrine neoplasia syndromes.
- Neuroendocrine tumours: the genetics and molecular mechanisms of neuroendocrine tumours, phaeochromocytomas and paragangliomas, the direction most identified with the journal.
- Hormone-dependent cancers: hormone-receptor signalling, hormone-deprivation therapy and endocrine resistance mechanisms, with hormone-sensitive tumours such as prostate cancer.
- Metabolism-related cancers: tumours affecting metabolism and energy generation, addressing endocrine mechanisms in cancers of the bladder, bone, kidney, lung and head and neck.
- Reviews and guidelines: the journal carries mini-reviews, systematic reviews and clinical guidelines and recommendations, with reviews occupying a prominent place.
Manuscript types include research articles, reviews, guidelines and recommendations, editorials, letters and case reports, submitted through ScholarOne. Peer review is double-anonymised and no pre-submission enquiry is required. The journal is hybrid open access, with an article processing charge of three thousand pounds, halved for authors at non-profit subscribing institutions稿件类型包括研究论文、综述、指南与推荐、社论、通讯与病例报告,经 ScholarOne 系统投稿,同行评审采用双盲方式,不设投稿前询问环节。 accepted manuscripts may be deposited in institutional repositories as green open access, and subscription content becomes free five years after publication.[1]
History
- Precursor and founding (1978/1994): the journal's lineage begins with the in-house industrial publication Reviews on Endocrine-Related Cancer (1978-1993), which the society took over in 1994 and renamed Endocrine-Related Cancer, widening its scope from reviews to original research. [2]
- Publisher transition: publication began under the society's Journal of Endocrinology Ltd. in 1994 and moved in January 2011 to BioScientifica, the society's wholly owned publishing subsidiary, giving the present arrangement of publication on the society's behalf. [3]
- Frequency evolution: the journal began at four issues a year in 1994, moved to bimonthly in 2011 and to monthly around the quarterly frequency still found in some catalogues is out of date.[4]
- Adoption by societies: the European Society of Endocrinology adopted the journal in 2006, the Endocrine Society of Australia in 2014 and the Japanese Hormone and Cancer Society in 2015, giving it multi-society support. [5]
- Metric standing: the 2025 impact factor is 4.4, with a five-year figure of 4.2, placing the journal in the second quartile of both endocrinology and metabolism and oncology. [6]
Editors
The journal operates under an editor-in-chief supported by one deputy editor and four advisory editors, a deliberately compact board oriented around subject oversight. Manuscripts go through the society's own system and double-anonymised review本刊实行主编统筹的编辑架构,配一名副主编与四名顾问编辑,编委规模不大、以专题把关为主。 the only published timing target is that a first decision on a peer-reviewed article should be returned within two weeks, and no acceptance rate is published.[7]
- Karel Pacak (editor-in-chief since January 2026): director of the Center for Adrenal Endocrine Tumors at AKESO in the Czech Republic and formerly of the United States National Institutes of Health, known for work on the genetic mechanisms of phaeochromocytoma and paraganglioma. [8]
