Earth-Science Reviews

Earth-Science Reviews (Earth-Sci. Rev.) is a review journal in the earth sciences published by Elsevier. Founded in January 1966, it publishes comprehensive reviews across the solid earth sciences, appears as twelve volumes a year, and had a 2025 impact factor of 11.3.《地球科学评论》（Earth-Science Reviews''''，缩写 Earth-Sci. Rev.''）是爱思唯尔出版的地球科学综述刊物，1966 年 1 月创刊。该刊以固体地球科学各方向的综合性综述为主，现为每年十二卷，二〇二五年影响因子为 11.3。

Scope

The journal's editorial stance is that a review must be the authoritative synthesis of its topic: however rich the material, it has to give a systematic integration of an earth-science question and propose a testable framework. The editorial office explicitly excludes purely bibliometric studies and topics outside the solid earth, such as ecology, soil and agricultural science and geoengineering. • Tectonics: plate tectonics and orogeny, structure of the continental lithosphere, faulting and deformation, and reconstruction of tectonic evolution.构造与大地构造： 板块构造与造山作用、大陆岩石圈结构、断裂与变形、构造演化重建。

• Sedimentology and stratigraphy: sedimentary systems and basin analysis, sequence stratigraphy, the sedimentary record and its environmental interpretation, and provenance analysis.沉积与地层学： 沉积体系与盆地分析、层序地层学、沉积记录与环境解释、物源分析。

• Palaeoclimate and palaeoenvironment: palaeoclimate proxies, the geological record of climate system evolution, methods of palaeoenvironmental reconstruction, and coupling of climate and tectonics.古气候与古环境： 古气候代用指标、气候系统演变的地质记录、古环境重建方法、气候与构造的耦合。

• Isotope geochemistry and geochronology: radiometric dating, stable isotope tracing, application and interpretation of isotope systems, and thermochronology.同位素地球化学与年代学： 放射性同位素定年、稳定同位素示踪、同位素体系的应用与解释、热年代学。

The journal is hybrid and the gold open access article processing charge is 4,930 US dollars. The publisher reports two days to first decision, eighty days to a decision after review and 160 days to acceptance, the first-decision figure including editorial screening本刊为混合出版，金色开放获取的文章处理费为四千九百三十美元；出版方公布投稿至首次决定两天、复审后决定八十天、投稿至接收一百六十天，其中首次决定包含编辑部初筛，录用比例未公布。 no acceptance rate is published.^[1]

History

• Founding (1966): volume 1, issue 1 appeared in January 1966. The publisher records neither a founder nor a founding rationale, and the title has not changed since founding, with no predecessor title and no renaming.创刊（1966年）： 1966 年 1 月出版第 1 卷第 1 期；创刊人与创刊动因出版方未予记载；刊名自创刊起未变，无前身刊名亦无改名。

• Frequency: the journal ran at about six volumes a year for a long period and moved to twelve volumes a year, one a month, from 2013, an increase reflecting growth in submissions and in demand for reviews.刊期沿革： 本刊长期为约每年六卷，2013 年起改为每年十二卷，即每月一卷；卷号的加密对应投稿量与综述需求的增长。^[2]

• Metrics and indexing: the impact factor is 11.3 and the CiteScore 20.8. Editors

The journal is run by an editorial board of thirteen co-editors-in-chief, the largest such arrangement among earth-science journals. The co-editors are based in several countries and include researchers from China University of Geosciences in Wuhan and from the Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The publisher gives no year of appointment for any of them.本刊现由十三名共同主编组成的编委会主持，是地球科学刊物中共同主编人数最多的一种；共同主编分布于多国，其中包括中国地质大学（武汉）与中国科学院广州地球化学研究所的研究者；出版方未公布各人的就任年份。^[3]

• Role in the field: the journal is among the oldest and highest-impact review titles in the earth sciences.
