Scope
- The readership is drawn from staff in rehabilitation facilities, research institutes and the funding bodies that pay for rehabilitation, a triangle set out in the profile on the journal's own site.
- Coverage runs across the medical, legal, political and social foundations of rehabilitation, together with the framework conditions under which services are planned, financed and delivered.
- Five working areas are named in the profile, Rehabilitationspraxis, Rehabilitationsforschung, Public Health, Sozialmedizin and Gesundheits-System-Forschung, each treated as a standing field rather than an occasional theme.
- Under Rehabilitationspraxis the journal gathers medical, vocational and social rehabilitation, quality management, ICF-based concepts and care models, and exercise therapy, which gives clinical teams material they can apply directly.
- Rehabilitationsforschung covers practice-relevant outcomes, methods and assessments, guideline development and social-medical questions, so a cohort study and a consensus paper on assessment instruments can share the same section.
- Public Health extends the view from the individual case to prevention and the health of whole populations, a strand that reaches beyond the single clinic or rehabilitation centre.
- Sozialmedizin addresses work capacity, the assessment of disability and the interface between medical findings and social insurance decisions, matters that shape who receives which service.
- Gesundheits-System-Forschung examines financing, access and the organisation of rehabilitation inside Germany's statutory system, where pension insurance, health funds and accident insurance each carry part of the cost.
- Originalien carry original research and Übersicht carries reviews, the two standing categories that make up the scientific core of each issue and take most of its pages.
- Recht – Meinung – Management holds a separate section with its own author guidelines, which gives legal argument, editorial opinion and management practice a place beside the clinical papers.
- Der interessante Fall publishes case reports under a second set of guidelines, which keeps single cases from crowding the original articles while still recording them.
- Alongside the reviewed papers, an Editorial and an Aktuelles section carry short items on changes in legislation, funding and service provision, which keeps readers current between the full articles.
- Continuing education is built into the programme through CME-accredited articles, so physicians in clinical posts can collect credit while working through a review of current practice.
- Papers may be written in German or English, and every title and abstract appears in both languages, so a German-only reader and an international reader meet the same content.
- Titles are capped at 200 characters in each language and the two abstracts together at 5,000 characters, a limit that keeps the bilingual apparatus compact without cutting the substance of the summary.
- The main text runs from 30,000 to 35,000 characters including references, carries at most four figures and tables, and keeps references to thirty or fewer, with sections ordered Einleitung, Material und Methoden, Ergebnisse, Diskussion and Kernbotschaft.

- The imprint records Stuttgart as the place of publication and states plainly that the journal is the property of Thieme, a formulation that has stayed with the title.
- Three bodies stand behind the title, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Rehabilitationswissenschaften (DGRW), the Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft für Rehabilitation (BAR) and the Deutsche Vereinigung für Rehabilitation (DVfR), which tie research, providers and policy into one editorial project.
- Publication settled at six issues a year, and the imprint still calls the journal zweimonatlich, with the National Library of Medicine recording six numbers a year from 2000 onward.
- Print ISSN 0034-3536 and electronic ISSN 1439-1309 both hang on the DOI prefix 10.1055, which resolves every article through Thieme connect.
- MEDLINE picked up the journal with volume 11, number 1, in February 1972, and PubMed has carried the articles in full since that issue rather than as selected citations.MEDLINE
- Access has stayed subscription-based, with an open access option sold per article under CC BY or CC BY-NC-ND, and the 2025 gold share reached 14.71 percent.

- German has remained the working language of the editorial office, yet English manuscripts are accepted and every article carries an English title, which keeps the journal visible in international databases.
