Dalian Polytechnic University

Dalian Polytechnic University (DPU) is a public university in Dalian, Liaoning, China, founded in 1958 as the Shenyang Institute of Light Industry and renamed in 2007.大连工业大学（DPU）是中国辽宁大连的一所公立大学，1958年以沈阳轻工业学院之名创办，2007年更名为现名。

It describes itself as the only higher education institution in northeastern China specialising in light industry, food, textiles and art design, a niche it has occupied since its foundation.学校自称为中国东北地区唯一一所以轻工业、食品、纺织和艺术设计为特色的高等学府，这一特色自建校起延续至今。

It enrols about 15,000 students on a single Dalian campus and runs engineering, science, art, management and economics programmes.学校在大连的一个校区拥有约1.5万名学生，开设工程、理学、艺术、管理与经济类课程。

History

• In 1958 the Shenyang municipal government decided to create the Shenyang Institute of Light Industry, with preparation starting on 22 July and the formal opening on 24 October, part of a national wave of new engineering schools built to supply industry with technicians.1958年，沈阳市政府决定创办沈阳轻工业学院，7月22日开始筹建，10月24日正式成立，这是全国为工业输送技术人才而新建工科院校浪潮的一部分。

• In December 1958 the Liaoning provincial party committee closed the All-China Federation of Trade Unions cadre school and merged it into the Shenyang institute.1958年12月，辽宁省委决定停办全国总工会干部学校，将其并入沈阳轻工业学院。

• Between January and December 1970 the institute was relocated to Kuandian County and placed under provincial and municipal revolutionary committees, with Lüda taking the leading role, and the stay in the county lasted less than a year.1970年1月至12月，学院迁往宽甸县，由省市革命委员会领导，以旅大方面为主，这次迁驻前后不足一年。
• In December 1970 the Dalian Light Industry School was merged into the institute, which was renamed the Dalian Institute of Light Industry.1970年12月，大连轻工业学校并入，学院更名为大连轻工业学院。
• From February 1973 it was supervised by the First Light Industry Bureau of Liaoning, and in August 1978 it moved to dual leadership by the Ministry of Light Industry and the province, with the ministry taking precedence.1973年2月起，学院由辽宁省第一轻工业局领导；1978年8月改为轻工业部与辽宁省双重领导，以轻工业部为主。
