City University of Macau

City University of Macau (CityU), in Portuguese Universidade da Cidade de Macau, is a private comprehensive university in Taipa, Macao SAR, China, whose lineage reaches back to the University of East Asia founded in 1981.澳門城市大學（City University of Macau，簡稱城大，葡文作 Universidade da Cidade de Macau）是位於中國澳門特別行政區氹仔的私立綜合型大學，其學脈上溯至 1981 年創辦的東亞大學。

It took its present name in February 2011 and today runs nine faculties and one research institute offering 12 bachelor's, 20 master's and 14 doctoral degree programmes in Chinese, English and Portuguese.該校於 2011 年 2 月改用現名，現設九個學院與一個研究院，開設 12 個學士、20 個碩士與 14 個博士學位課程，以中文、英文及葡文授課。

Its motto, "Mingde, Boxue, Shangxing", calls for illustrious virtue, broad learning and earnest practice, and the university presents itself as rooted in Macao and serving the region.其校訓「明德、博學、尚行」意為彰明德行、廣博學問、篤實力行，大學自述以「根植澳門、服務區域」為使命。

History

• The university's predecessor was the Graduate School and Open College of the private University of East Asia, established in 1981 as Macao's first degree-granting higher-education institution.大學的前身是私立東亞大學的研究院和公開學院，隨 1981 年東亞大學創立而設，後者為澳門首所可頒授學位的高等院校。

• The educator Shou-Sheng Hsueh founded the University of East Asia and served as its first president, giving the institution's lineage its founding figure.教育家薛壽生博士創辦東亞大學並出任首任校長，成為這一學脈的創校人物。

• In 1988 the Macao Foundation, acting under government direction, acquired the University of East Asia and reorganised it into a public institution.1988 年，由澳門政府主導的澳門基金會收購東亞大學，並將其改組為公立大學。

• In 1991 the University of East Asia was renamed the University of Macau, while its polytechnic college became the independent public Macao Polytechnic Institute.1991 年，東亞大學改名為澳門大學，其理工學院則獨立為公立的澳門理工學院。

• From 2004 China's Ministry of Education allowed the Asia International Open University to recruit master's students on the mainland, and from 2005 to recruit doctoral students.自 2004 年起中國教育部批准亞洲（澳門）國際公開大學在內地招收碩士研究生，2005 年起可招收博士研究生。

• In September 2010 Chan Meng Kam took over the Asia International Open University as chairman of the University Council and launched a strategy of renaming, restructuring, transformation and upgrading.2010 年 9 月，陳明金先生接辦亞洲（澳門）國際公開大學並出任大學校董會主席，推行「更名、改制、轉型、升級」戰略。

• In February 2011 the Asia International Open University was renamed the City University of Macau, and the university chose the urban-university brand for its planning work.2011 年 2 月，亞洲（澳門）國際公開大學更名為澳門城市大學，並以「城市大學」品牌策劃其發展。

• In 2012 the Ministry of Education approved CityU to admit mainland students into its full-time undergraduate programmes, completing its access to all three degree levels on the mainland.2012 年，教育部批准城大在內地招收全日制本科生，使其取得在內地招收本碩博三個層次學生的資格。

• In May 2014 the university confirmed that it had applied to the Macao government to lease the old University of Macau campus at Taipa, which had once been part of the University of East Asia.2014 年 5 月，大學證實已向澳門特區政府申請租用澳門大學舊校園，該校園曾是東亞大學的一部分。

• The move returned the institution to the region of the original University of East Asia, making part of the old campus the main site of CityU.此次搬遷使學校回到東亞大學原址區域，令舊校園的一部分成為城大的辦學主體。

• A student activity centre opened on 28 March 2023 near the main campus, on the ground floor at 1061 Taipa North-East Road, with rooms for study, team activities and fitness.2023 年 3 月 28 日，鄰近校本部的學生活動中心啟用，位於氹仔東北馬路 1061 號地下，設學習、團隊活動與健身空間。

• On 1 February 2024 the university signed a letter of intent with the education and youth development bureau about a self-funded new campus.2024 年 2 月 1 日，大學與教育及青年發展局簽署意向書，擬以自資模式建設新校園。

• On 5 November 2024 the government began the land-grant procedure to give a Coloane plot free of charge to the City University of Macau Foundation for a new campus.2024 年 11 月 5 日，澳門政府啟動土地批給程序，把路環一幅國有土地無償授予澳門城市大學基金會，用以興建新校舍。

• Under the takeover of 2010 the university tied its development plans to Macao and regional needs, stressing cultural heritage, urban industry and social development.在 2010 年接辦之後，大學把發展規劃與澳門及區域需要相連，注重城市文化脈絡、城市產業與社會發展。

• In December 2023 the Global Alliance of Metropolitan Universities was founded on a CityU initiative together with Hong Kong Metropolitan University, Shenzhen University and Guangzhou University.2023 年 12 月，由城大倡議，聯合香港都會大學、深圳大學與廣州大學共同發起成立都會型大學全球聯盟。

• The university marked its 40th anniversary in 2021 and set out a new five-year development plan in the same year.大學於 2021 年迎來 40 周年校慶，並在同一年開啟新的五年發展規劃。

• In March 2024 CityU established the Faculty of Health Sciences and marked its 43rd anniversary with academic lectures on big health and artificial intelligence.2024 年 3 月，城大成立大健康學院，並以「大健康與人工智能」為題的學術講座迎接 43 周年校慶。

Academics

• The university has nine faculties and one research institute: Business, Data Science, Finance, Health Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Innovation and Design, International Tourism and Management, Education, Law, and the Institute for Research on Portuguese-Speaking Countries.大學設九個學院與一個研究院，即商學院、數據科學學院、金融學院、大健康學院、人文社會科學學院、創新設計學院、國際旅遊與管理學院、教育學院、法學院與葡語國家研究院。

• It offers 12 bachelor's degree programmes, 20 master's degree programmes and 14 doctoral degree programmes, taught mainly in Chinese and English.大學開設 12 個學士、20 個碩士與 14 個博士學位課程，主要以中文和英文授課。

• More than 80 per cent of its teaching staff hold doctoral degrees from universities of international standing, and the university recruits prominent scholars as distinguished professors.其授課教師中逾八成在國際知名大學取得博士學位，大學並延攬海內外知名學者出任特聘教授。

Campus

• CityU runs three campuses on Taipa: the Taipa main campus, the Golden Dragon Campus and the Royal Centre Campus, all on the island of Taipa.城大在氹仔設三個校區，即氹仔主校區、金龍校區與保怡校區。

• The Royal Centre Campus takes its name from the commercial Royal Center Building on Avenida do Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues, where the university was housed before its 2015 move back to the old campus.保怡校區之名取自位於羅德里格斯博士大馬路的商業樓宇「保怡中心」，2015 年遷回舊校園之前大學曾以此為校址。

• The Taipa main campus occupies the old University of East Asia grounds and the former University of Macau site, with buildings including the Administration Building, the Ho Yin Conference Centre and the Cultural Centre.氹仔主校區位於東亞大學舊址與澳門大學舊校園之上，校內建築包括行政樓、何賢會議中心與文化中心。
