China Agricultural University

China Agricultural University is a national key public research university in Haidian District, Beijing, directly under the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, whose history begins with the College of Agriculture of the Imperial University of Peking in 1905 and which took its present name in September 1995 from the merger of the Beijing Agricultural University and the Beijing Agricultural Engineering University.中国农业大学是北京市海淀区的一所国家重点公立研究型大学，直属中华人民共和国教育部；其历史起自 1905 年成立的京师大学堂农科大学，1995 年 9 月由北京农业大学与北京农业工程大学合并后改用现名。

History

• In 1898 the Imperial University of Peking, the first national comprehensive university of modern China, was founded, and in 1905 its College of Agriculture began to be prepared as one of the eight constituent colleges of that university, the earliest origin of China Agricultural University.1898 年，中国近代第一所国立综合性大学京师大学堂建立；1905 年，作为京师大学堂八所分科大学之一的农科大学开始筹建，这是中国农业大学最早的源头。

• In February 1914 the College of Agriculture was reorganised as the National Beijing Agricultural College and began to operate independently, with the aim of teaching advanced agricultural learning and training specialists, and it was one of the eight well-known national colleges in Beijing.1914 年 2 月，农科大学改组为国立北京农业专门学校并开始独立办学，以「教授农业高等学术、养成专门人才」为宗旨，是当时北京著名的国立八校之一。

• In March 1923 the National Beijing Agricultural College became the National Beijing Agricultural University, adopting the new mission of improving agriculture and the lives of farmers and of training agricultural specialists.1923 年 3 月，国立北京农业专门学校改为国立北京农业大学，以「改进农业及农民生活、培养各种农业专门人才」为新的办学宗旨。

• In 1928 the government renamed Beijing as Beiping and merged nine national universities in the city into the National Beiping University, whereupon the agricultural university became the College of Agriculture of the National Beiping University.1928 年，国民政府改北京为北平并实行大学区制，将北平的九所国立大学合并组建国立北平大学，农业大学随即改为国立北平大学农学院。

• After the war with Japan broke out in 1937 the Beiping University moved to Xi'an and formed the Xi'an Provisional University, and in 1938 the Ministry of Education ordered a further move to Hanzhong, where it became the National Northwest Associated University and its agricultural college became that university's agricultural college.1937 年抗日战争全面爆发后，北平大学迁往西安，与北平师范大学等院校组成西安临时大学；1938 年国民政府教育部令其南迁汉中，改为国立西北联合大学，其农学院即成为西北联大农学院。

• In October 1946 the Peking University reopened in Beiping and rebuilt a College of Agriculture on the former site of the Beiping University college, and in July 1949 the College of Agriculture of Fu Jen Catholic University was merged into it.1946 年 10 月，北京大学在北平复学，于原北平大学农学院院址重建农学院；1949 年 7 月，辅仁大学农学院并入北京大学农学院。

• Luo Zhenyu, the antiquarian and pioneer scholar of oracle bone inscriptions, was the first head of the College of Agriculture of the Imperial University of Peking, serving from April 1909 to February 1912.古文字学家、甲骨学先驱罗振玉是京师大学堂农科大学首任监督，自 1909 年 4 月至 1912 年 2 月任职。

• Tang Peisong, a plant physiologist regarded as a founder of the field in China, served as president of the Beijing Agricultural University from 1946 to 1949.被视为中国植物生理学奠基人之一的植物生理学家汤佩松，于 1946 至 1949 年任北京农业大学校长。
