Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology
Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology is a professional journal in neuroscience published by Springer. Founded in 1981, it focuses on the analysis of neuronal and brain function at the cellular and subcellular levels. It moved to fully open access in February 2024 and its current editor is Dr Juan M. Saavedra, MD, of Georgetown University Medical Center (United States)Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology [1]
Its CAS ranking has changed from year to year: the journal remained in the fourth tier of medicine in the 2024 and 2025 lists but rose to the third tier in the 2026 list, so any citation of its ranking should state the year on which it is based该刊的中科院分区逐年变动:在 2024 与 2025 年度均列医学四区,而在 2026 年的分区表中回升至三区,引用该刊的分区数据时需注明所依据的年度。
Scope
The subjects listed above together express the trade-off of a narrowly scoped specialist title. It does not attempt to cover neuroscience in every direction, but requires each paper to anchor neuronal function in a specific molecular mechanism. The restriction to the cellular and subcellular level keeps the journal densely cited in areas such as single cell sequencing, cerebral organoids and ion channelsScope
History
- Late 1970s: George Stefano proposed starting a new scientific journal, initially with the subject matter limited to invertebrate neurobiology. On consideration the plan was judged too narrow and was not adopted1970 年代后期: George Stefano 提出创办新刊,最初设想把范围限定在无脊椎动物神经生物学,因过于狭窄而未采纳。
- 1981: The journal was founded with one of the initiators as its first editor-in-chief. Papers in volume 1 were primarily electrophysiological reports, studies of tissue culture of hybrid neurons or glia, and biochemical measurements of transmitter substances in nervous tissues1981 年: 正式创刊,首任主编由倡议人之一担任,首卷论文以电生理报告、杂交神经元或胶质细胞的组织培养以及神经组织中递质物质的生化测定为主。
- 1987: Juan Saavedra took over as editor-in-chief and remained in the post for many years, publishing a fortieth anniversary issue in 20211987 年: Juan Saavedra 接任主编,此后长期任职至 2021 年刊发创刊四十周年特刊。
- 2021: A fortieth anniversary issue traced four decades of change in neuroscience research, from electrophysiological and cellular methods towards molecular approaches and from animal models towards the direct study of human disease2021 年: 发表创刊四十周年特刊,回顾四十年来神经科学研究从电生理与细胞方法向分子方法、从动物模型向直接研究人类疾病的转变。
- 2024: Converted to fully open access, while continuing to organise themed collections on subjects such as artificial intelligence in neurodegenerative disease and the brain renin angiotensin system in ageing and neurodegeneration2024 年: 转为完全开放获取,期刊同时继续以专题专刊形式组织人工智能在神经退行性疾病中的应用、脑内肾素血管紧张素系统等方向。
The point of this history section is that the cellular and molecular positioning of the journal was not adopted retrospectively. When the journal was founded in 1981 molecular neuroscience was still in its infancy, and the founding editor later observed that it was fortunate to include the term molecular in the title. Four decades on, most papers in the journal concern molecular mechanisms in the nervous systemHistory
