Cell Host & Microbe (commonly abbreviated as ''Cell Host Microbe') is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Cell Press, issued monthly. Scope

The journal states its mission as providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and concepts between scientists studying the microbe and those studying the host immune, cell biological and molecular response upon colonization or infection by a microbe. That two-sided remit sets the standard for its papers, which must understand both the microbe's strategy and the constraints imposed by the host environment. The journal is published in hybrid mode, with no charge to authors on the subscription route and an article processing charge for authors choosing open access. The official metrics page reports a three-day median from submission to first decision, a figure that reflects the speed of editorial screening rather than the completion of peer review and must be read with that in mind. History

• Founding context (2007): the journal was launched in March 2007 with Lakshmi Goyal as its first editor-in-chief, appointed to the founding editorship in 2006, and set out its intent in a founding editorial on the host–microbe interface as a new voyage of discovery. • Change of editorship (spring 2025): in the spring of 2025 Goyal retired and Ella Hinson took over as editor-in-chief, her editorial carrying the title of growing, continuing a narrative the journal had used at its tenth anniversary in 2017 and its fifteenth in 2022. Editors

The journal is edited by an editor-in-chief drawn from the publisher's own professional staff rather than from an academic institution, an arrangement common within this publisher's titles.
