Cancer Cell International
Cancer Cell International (commonly abbreviated as ''Cancer Cell Int.') is a fully open access journal of BioMed Central and Springer Nature. Founded in 2001, it publishes original research in cancer biology and cancer therapy, with a 2025 impact factor of 7.Cancer Cell International(常用缩写 Cancer Cell Int.) [1]
Scope
- Genre: the journal publishes original research papers on the biological behaviour of tumour cells and on interventions directed at them. It runs no review section and is therefore a research journal rather than a review title.
- Subject coverage: the journal covers cancer cell biology, tumour immunology, cancer metabolism, cancer stem cells, cellular signalling and apoptosis control, as well as mechanisms of drug resistance and targeting strategies in cancer therapy.
- Experimental models: the journal welcomes work based on cell culture models, organoids and xenograft models, as well as translational studies on human tumour samples that include corresponding functional validation.
- Open access and charges: the journal is fully open access and every article is free to read. An article processing charge applies to original research articles, and the submission system displays the current standard at the point of peer review.
- Indexing and metrics: the journal is indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded and ranks in the first quartile in the Oncology category, with a 2025 impact factor of 7, which places it among the fully open access titles with higher impact factors in that quartile.
- Position within the BMC portfolio: as part of the BMC family the journal follows that publisher's editorial conventions, including an author- and reader-centred editorial process, transparent peer-review policy, and the absence of charges beyond those levied on manuscripts.BMC [2]
History
- 2001: the journal was founded and published by BioMed Central. It adopted a fully open access model from the outset, an unusual choice among the large publishing operations of the time.2001年: 期刊创刊,由 BioMed Central 出版,创刊之初即采取完全开放获取模式,这在当时的大型出版体系中尚属少数做法。
- The 2000s to the 2010s: the journal's standing grew steadily until it became one of the fully open access titles receiving a substantial volume of submissions in cancer cell biology. Its subject matter also widened from purely in-vitro mechanistic work to the tumour microenvironment and therapeutic response.2000年代至2010年代: 期刊影响力稳步上升,逐步成为肿瘤细胞生物学方向上作者投稿量较大的完全开放获取刊物之一,稿件主题也从纯体外机制研究扩展到肿瘤微环境与治疗反应。
- 2020: BioMed Central completed a full consolidation of the BMC brand. The journal kept its title but was folded into the unified BMC publishing system, with its editorial and submission processes progressively merged. The publisher has been BioMed Central since the journal was founded2020年: BioMed Central 完成对 BMC 系列品牌的全面整合,期刊在保留原有刊名的前提下归入统一的 BMC 出版体系,编辑与投稿流程逐步并轨;出版方自创刊起始终为 BioMed Central,该机构于 2010 年被 Springer Science+Business Media 收购,其后随 Springer Nature 的合并延续至今。 that company was acquired by Springer Science+Business Media in 2010 and has since continued within Springer Nature.
- Recent years: the impact factor has continued to rise, reaching 7 in 2025. Within the Oncology category the journal now sits firmly in the first quartile and is among the fully open access titles with the highest impact factors there. [3]
Editors
- Editors-in-chief: the journal has two editors-in-chief. They are Yasumasa Kato, MedScD PhD of Obu University in Koriyama, Japan, and Andy Tao Yin Lau PhD of Shantou University Medical College in China. The two-editor arrangement ensures that both cancer cell biology and tumour immunology are properly represented.
- Associate editors: there are sixty-seven associate editors, a notably large number for a journal of this kind. They cover cancer metabolism, apoptosis, DNA damage repair and immunotherapy, and are drawn from institutions in the United States, Italy, China, Germany, India, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom and Mexico.
- Composition of the board: the associate editors are well balanced geographically, with clinicians and basic researchers sitting side by side. Among them are senior investigators at the University of Pennsylvania, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins University and Stanford University. The journal's submissions therefore concentrate on experimental work.
- Service commitment and ethics: the editors commit to returning a definite decision on every submission, with constructive comments as the guiding rule. Under BMC practice the judgement is made by the editorial team rather than by an outside referee. Manuscripts are lodged through the publisher's online submission system, which also handles plagiarism screening, ethics-declaration checks and collection of author contribution statements, and the journal sets out specific ethics requirements for studies involving human subjects or animals. [4]
