Canadian Pharmacists Journal / Revue des Pharmaciens du Canada
Canadian Pharmacists Journal / Revue des Pharmaciens du Canada is the bilingual practice journal of the Canadian Pharmacists Association, published in Toronto, and it carries research, reviews and commentary on how pharmacy is practised in Canada.《加拿大药师杂志》是加拿大药师协会的双语实践类会刊,在多伦多出版,登载加拿大药学实践的研究、综述与评论。
Its 2025 Journal Impact Factor is 2.4, and the title has run under its present bilingual name since 2005, when the older Canadian Pharmaceutical Journal was renamed.2025 年期刊影响因子 2.4,现用的双语刊名自 2005 年起使用,那年更早的《加拿大药学杂志》改用此名。
Scope
- Practical research is the core of the journal, and most of what it prints comes out of community pharmacies, primary care clinics and hospital dispensaries rather than out of laboratories.
- Prescribing and expanded scope get steady coverage, from minor ailment prescribing and medication reviews to pharmacists initiating pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV.
- Integration into primary care runs through much of the recent volume, with studies of team-based clinics, collaborative practice agreements and the place of the pharmacist in a patient's medical home.
- Medication safety has a standing slot, and the Institute for Safe Medication Practices Canada contributes bulletins that turn reported incidents into lessons a pharmacy team can act on.
- Clinical reviews and guidelines are published in full, and the Hypertension Canada guideline for diagnosing and treating hypertension in primary care appeared in the journal rather than in a medical title.
- Workforce questions take up more space than a clinical journal would allow, with staffing levels and burnout handled as research subjects along with the labour supply and the gender wage gap.
- Equity runs through the editorial plan, and papers have looked at Indigenous training for pharmacy staff, the experience of 2SLGBTQ+ patients and the services available to newcomers.
- Vaccination and other public health services delivered at the counter are covered as practice questions, including how patients are identified, consented and followed up afterwards.
- Quality indicators and measurement form a methodological strand, with papers asking how a pharmacy's contribution to a patient's care can be counted at all.
- Education and continuing professional development are treated as practice topics, from student research placements to the design of accredited learning that fits a working pharmacist's week.
- Paired commentaries put two answers to one question side by side, as when the journal asked whether every pharmacy ought to keep an automated external defibrillator on site.
- Conference abstracts are printed as supplements rather than mixed into the issues, and the Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada supplies the material for those volumes.
- French is a working language of the journal rather than a translation afterthought, and articles arrive in either language with abstracts supplied in both.
- Practice tools and short reports form a separate strand, giving a working pharmacy a page it can read during a shift instead of a paper it has to set aside for the weekend.
History
- The volume count reaches back to 1868, when the Canadian Pharmaceutical Journal first appeared, so the 2026 volume is the 159th of an unbroken run.
- The present bilingual title was adopted with volume 138 in 2005, and the two halves of it are used separately by the two language communities the journal serves.
- Ownership stayed with the national professional body throughout, and the Canadian Pharmacists Association keeps its offices in Ottawa, where the editorial work has been run.
- Six issues make a volume, and Crossref shows exactly six numbered parts in every volume from 145 in 2012 through 158 in 2025, without a gap or a doubled number.
- Supplements are added on top of that count, and recent volumes have carried the annual abstract books of the Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada.
- Volume 159 in 2026 arrived with three supplements lettered S1 to S3, a heavier supplement load than any volume in the decade before it.2026 年的第 159 卷带了三册编为 S1 至 S3 的增刊,比此前十年任何一卷都多。
- PubMed picked the title up with volume 145 in 2012, and the National Library of Medicine has recorded it since then, with full text deposited in PubMed Central.
- Indexing beyond medicine is thin by design, since the journal sits in the emerging sources index rather than in the science citation index expanded.
- More than one DOI prefix sits under the title, since 10.3821 and 10.1177 appear side by side within the same volumes, and 10.3138 arrives with volume 159.
- From 2026 the imprint names Toronto rather than Ottawa, and University of Toronto Press appears where the association's own address used to stand.2026
- Impact has climbed across three reports, 1.6 in 2023, 1.7 in 2024 and 2.4 in 2025, with a five-year value of 2.1 standing behind the latest figure.
- The 2025 release puts it 215th of 356 in pharmacology and pharmacy, with 980 citations counted, a cited half-life of 7 years and about 24 articles in the window.2025 年榜单把它排在药理学与药学 356 种中的第 215 位,计入被引 980 次,被引半衰期 7 年,窗口内约 24 篇。
- Open access is far more common here than in most society journals, and 59.79 per cent of recent papers came out gold, paid for by authors or their institutions.
Editors
- Editorial direction sits with an advisory board, and the board signs its statements collectively rather than through a single editor's name.
- Each board statement is printed twice, once in English and once in French, which is how the 2025 reflection on a world without this journal filled two pages of volume 158.
- Ross T. Tsuyuki of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta in Edmonton stands at the head of the board and signs the editorial notes in its pages.
- A second Edmonton representative is Yazid N. Al Hamarneh, from the same faculty, so two of the nine members come from a single institution.
- Zubin Austin represents the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto, the school that supplies the board with its Ontario voice.Zubin Austin
- Kelly Grindrod comes from the School of Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo in Kitchener, and Derek Jorgenson from the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition in Saskatoon.
- Jorgenson also runs the Medication Assessment Centre there, which is the kind of practice laboratory the journal publishes from.Jorgenson
- Lyne Lalonde brings the francophone side from the Faculté de pharmacie at the Université de Montréal, and she is the board's link to French-language submissions.
- A librarian sits among the clinicians, since Janice Y. Kung works at the Geoffrey and Robyn Sperber Health Sciences Library at the University of Alberta.
- Between them the nine names cover institutions in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec, a spread that matches the federal shape of the readership.
- Pieces arrive through the association's editorial office, and the journal prints its own correction notices when a published paper turns out to need one.
- Review is handled by practitioners as much as by academics, which suits a journal whose readers work at a dispensary counter rather than at a laboratory bench.
