British Journal of Psychiatry
The British Journal of Psychiatry is the official journal of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the United Kingdom, published by Cambridge University Press in the United Kingdom and issued monthly. Covering all branches of psychiatry with particular emphasis on clinical aspects, it is among the longest-established and most influential international journals in the field. [1]
Scope
- The journal covers all branches of psychiatry, with a particular emphasis on the clinical aspects of each topic. [2]
- It is committed to improving the prevention, investigation, diagnosis, treatment and care of mental illness, as well as to the promotion of mental health globally. *
- Alongside authoritative original research papers from around the world, it publishes editorials, review articles, commentaries on contentious articles, short reports, a comprehensive book review section and a lively correspondence column. *
- The article types also include a Feature published at regular intervals presenting novel concepts or a state-of-the-art summary of a particular aspect of psychiatry, and Guest Editorials offering a platform to College members and the wider readership. *
- Editorial content is not restricted in scope, ranging from discoveries in basic neuroscience through clinical science of the mind to the pragmatic day-to-day issues psychiatrists face, and addressing social, political, legal and economic issues affecting psychiatry.
History
- 1853: The journal was founded as the Asylum Journal by the Medico-Psychological Association, initially aimed at superintendents and medical officers within the asylum system.1853:以Asylum Journal(疯人院杂志)之名创刊,由医学与心理学学会创办,读者对象最初为疯人院系统的院长与医生。*
- 1855 to 1858: It was successively renamed the Asylum Journal of Mental Science and then the Journal of Mental Science, the latter title being retained for more than a century.1855 至 1858:先后易名为Asylum Journal of Mental Science与Journal of Mental Science,其中第二个名称沿用了一个多世纪。*

- 1971 to 2018: From July 1971 the journal was published by the newly constituted Royal College of Psychiatrists, with printing handled in London by Headley Brothers in the early years. In the same period the College also published Advances in Psychiatric Treatment, The Psychiatrist, formerly the Psychiatric Bulletin, and International Psychiatry.1971 至 2018:1971 年 7 月起由新成立的皇家精神科医师学院出版,早期由 Headley Brothers 在伦敦承担印刷;学院同期还出版Advances in Psychiatric Treatment、The Psychiatrist(原名Psychiatric Bulletin)与International Psychiatry。*

Editors
